Industry Opens a Can of Worms on Alok Nath

The entire #MeToo movement is giving a whole new perspective to life as we know it. There are some actors, politicians, and men of many other occupations, that have always lived respectful and dignified lives. Lives where no one could point a finger at them. Lives which make us respect such individuals over the years. However, are these all just disguises?

Tanushree Dutta’s recent sexual harassment allegations against veteran actor Nana Patekar has led to a string of sexual harassment allegations by people from various walks of life. One particular entity who has become a victim of these allegations is Bollywood’s very own ‘Sanskaari’ (traditional) actor, Alok Nath.

Now Nath has been a respected person in the industry for decades, having first starred in the 1982 film Gandhi, which also won the Academy Award for Best Picture that year. A recent post by TV show ‘Tara’ writer, Vinta Nanda, revealed how she had to go through the harrowing experience of being raped by someone, though she didn’t name the person. However, her hints were enough for social media to join the dots and get the name – Alok Nath, someone who has got the ‘Sanskaari’ tag due to several roles of being the virtuous father figure.

Now her post would’ve left the audiences thinking this could’ve been a one-time incident. However, a number of industry members have since then come out against Alok Nath, one being a crew member of popular movie ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’. The woman, who wishes to stay anonymous to protect the dignity of her family, mentioned that she got the courage to speak out against Nath after Nanda’s post on Facebook.

She narrated an incident where they were shooting a night scene and she went to hand over a change of costumes to Nath, who then started stripping in front of her and grasped her hand when she tried to run out of the room. She was manhandled and didn’t report the incident to producer-director, Sooraj Barjatya, as he was a good family friend of Nath’s. This incident led her to quitting the film industry altogether.

The next person to have a go at Alok Nath was actress Sandhya Mridul. She took to Twitter to mentioned a detailed account of how she was sexually assaulted by Alok Nath and how she was tagged as ‘arrogant and difficult’ by Nath after she refused to give in to him. She wrote about Nath’s antics after getting drunk and how he made calls to her hotel room each night during the shooting of a Zee tele-film. See the full account here:

Well, the story doesn’t end right here. The next one to take a shot at Alok Nath was TV, film and theater actress Deepika Amin. She tweeted about how everyone knew what a drunken mess Nath is. And how he’s always fallen over women over the years. The question then is, why hasn’t anything been said over the years? Why has someone with such a nasty history been respected by the industry over the years? How many more #MeToo stories can we hear against this man before some action is taken?

Here’s Amin’s tweet:
