One For The Ladies: Four More Shots Please – Episode 1

Here’s a show that has been hyped quite a bit in the last couple of weeks – ‘Four More Shots Please’. And why not promote it heavily? Amazon Prime Video has been doing a fabulous job with their original productions in recent times, initially starting off with a bang with Inside Edge, followed by another fairly decent office comedy series called Going Viral Pvt. Ltd. Who knows, one day this platform could be on par with Netflix!

The show surely boasts of a accomplished star cast, each having considerable work in their respective fields. Gurbani Judge is one, popularly known as ‘Bani’ – VJ, reality show specialist, fitness model, TV presenter and of course, my personal favourite. Kirti Kulhari is another one of the four protagonists, having recently appeared in ‘Uri’, which is doing considerably well in the box office.

Sayani Gupta also plays a lead role, after her inspiring performance in Inside Edge as the star’s sister and the team’s analyst. Maanvi Gagroo has done quite a few Bollywood films including ‘PK’ and ‘No One Killed Jessica’. Of course, the likes of Milind Soman and Prateik Babbar need no introductions.

Four More Shots Please Episode 1 review - 'Ambitious.Prude.Feminist.Slut'

What is ‘Four More Shots Please’?

The boldness of the show represents every Indian woman, honestly. Episode 1’s title itself speaks a lot about the 10-episode series. ‘Ambitious.Prude.Feminist.Slut’. Why can’t a woman be all four of these? That too on a single day? And who is there to judge these women? In this case, the series depicts the average Mumbai girl facing different problems each day. Of course, the more modern era girl.

Directed by Anu Menon and co-produced by Rangita Pritish Nandy, the series celebrates womanhood and friendship, describing the four women as ‘unapologetically flawed’. The first episode gives us a brief understanding of the lives of the four characters and while it wasn’t 100% engaging in the first 27 minutes, I’m interested to see how these four carry their roles through the series. My guess so far is that the show is a ‘Veere di Wedding’ in a web-series.

Thinking about giving it a watch? Check out the trailer here:

Clearly, web series is the new ‘in’ thing. Everyone consumes digital content these days. With smartphones and other devices, the accessibility has increased ten-fold. 5 years back, no one would think that Saif Ali Khan would be starring in a web series, but still, Sacred Games turned out to be a booming success.

As for Four More Shots Please, I’m not going in for a series review as most people have done so already, but I’m excited to see what the plot turns out to be. A pretty catchy theme song is something I noticed in this pilot episode of ‘Four More Shots Please’. I’m a fan of all four of the women being cast, and am definitely excited to continue to Episode 2 of the series.
