18th August 2019 was the start of the Americas Region T20 Final where four teams will battle it out in 12 games in a round robin format. 2 games were played on the first day and another two are scheduled today with the first being between hosts Bermuda and Canada, the latter obviously being the more experienced and talented side.
These two will be playing each other for the first time in an international T20 game and Bermuda will have confidence after shocking USA on Day 1. There was assistance to medium pacers and we can expect that again as all games are at the same venue. Bermuda
With the original captain out with a head injury, Terryn Fray took over the reins for the hosts and he unfortunately had to walk back with a golden duck against USA. However, the batsman has some decent scores including 56 and 77 against Jersey and Vanuatu last year. The highest scorer for them in that game was Delray Rawlins who ended up with 63 and it came as no surprise given he played a lot of matches for Sussex as well.
Put in to chase 142, USA was under the gun with George O’Brien picking two of them main batsmen early on, eventually ending with figures of 4-1-14-2 and you can’t miss out this experienced player. We want a good balance that’s why I’m going in for the youth of Kamau Leverock who bats and bowls both and is coming off a good season with Notts 2nd XI. There won’t be many picking him after his duck vs USA.
Canada
Opener Rodrigo Thomas was the hero at the recent Global T20 Canada 2019 where he scored 291 runs in just 7 games and smashed the ball all around the park. He won’t be in too many fantasy teams for this game today especially since he failed with a score of 5(11) on his T20I debut. Ravinderpal Singh was the top scorer in the last game – a whirlwind 101(48) including 10 sixes.
Saad bin Zafar would’ve otherwise been one of my first PlayerzPot (Use Code “READ1234”) fantasy picks but this ground has shown no assistance to spinners, so I’ll instead pick the likes of Romesh Eranga who was the pick of their bowlers against Cayman, ending with 3/19 in 4 overs. Captain Nitish Kumar scored 41(30) in that game and we expect him to keep the runs coming all through this tournament.
