Many times in the past, glamorous Indian women like Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai, Lara Dutta, Sushmita Sen and more have made us proud by winning titles such as ‘Miss World‘, ‘Miss Universe‘ and others. We at Read Scoops would like to let you know about one more woman who recently made us proud at the international level – Bhumika Sharma.
A couple of weeks back, the Women’s World Bodybuilding Championship was held in Venice, Italy, where 50 participants contested to be crowned the champion. The competition, also known as ‘Miss World‘ for bodybuilders, have 27 Indians out of the 50 contestants selected from around the world.
21-year old Indian Bhumika Sharma was eventually crowned as Miss World after leading the points table across the three categories of the event – individual posing, body posing and fall in. When she won, Bhumika became the first Indian woman to win this title.
This girl from Dehradun was initially a shooter, trying to make a career in that field but after having met an inspirational coach, she turned to bodybuilding and so far, hasn’t let anyone down. Incidentally, being sportspersons runs in the family as her mother Hansa Manral Sharma, was also Head Coach of the Indian women’s weightlifting team.
We are all proud of this Indian woman who became famous by flexing her muscles at such a big stage and we wish her the best of luck for her the ‘Miss Universe Championship‘ which she will now be preparing for. The event takes place in December 2017, in UK.
According to reports, her parents were initially skeptical of this career choice but I’m sure they won’t be regretting their decision of letting her choose her career path now. Keep reading our Sports Scoops section for similar stories!
