Atiq uz Zaman – New Lancashire Women Head Coach

Who said careers end after one retires as a professional cricketer? For those like Pakistan’s Atiq uz Zaman, it’s just the start. The former international cricketer is a highly qualified professional coach and is often in the news for his new assignments. Best known as Head Coach of Pakistan domestic side SSGC, he recently welcomed Mohammad Amir to his team after the latter was dropped from the national side.

The 43-year old also had a stint with Lahore Qalandars as their fielding coach in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) last year. Read Scoops has a close relation with Zaman, having also conducted a complete interview with the professional in 2018, so we like to track his progress and let everyone know when he signs on a new project.

The latest news coming in is that of Lancashire County having appointed Atiq uz Zaman as the interim Head Coach of their Women’s Team for the upcoming County Season. Zaman was part of the coaching set up of the Lancashire Cricket U-19 team last season too, which ended victorious in the Six Counties Championship.

Atiq uz Zaman signs as Lancashire Women interim Head Coach

The appointment came after former Head Coach Dan Atkinson stepped down from his duties for a period of 12 months, citing that he wishes to focus on his coaching assignments with Myerscough Cricket College. Lancashire thanked him for his services over the past six years in a blog on their website, where they first broke the news of Zaman’s signing.

Talking about his addition to the squad, Zamand said, “I am thrilled to have been named as interim Head Coach of Lancashire Women. The hard work has already started ahead of a busy season and it has been great to work with such a highly talented squad. I am very familiar with the Red Rose having already coached with the Lancashire U13s and U19s set-up last season, I hope that we can enjoy another successful season.”

In the 2017 season, Lancashire Women completed a double in the T20 and ODI seasons under Atkinson, but finished sixth and fourth in the table respectively last season. Now it’s up to Zaman to bring all his years of experience into the fray and ensure the team reaches new heights under his guidance.

“We are delighted to have been able to appoint somebody with the international experience of Atiq. He knows the Club well and he will be supported by a coaching team which will be confirmed before the beginning of the season. We are looking forward to an important campaign,” said Performance Manager for Lancashire Cricket, Stephen Titchard.

They also shared the excitement on Twitter:

The season will begin for Lancashire Women when they travel to Hampshire to play their first game on 5th May 2019. Until then, keep following ReadScoops.com for all updates from the world of cricket.
