Babar Dethrones Finch to Take No.1 Spot

Pakistani dashing opener Babar Azam’s rich vein of form in the shortest format of the game continues as he banged his way to get to the top of the ICC T20I Batsmen Rankings! With his superb batting performances against the Aussies, Babar moved up four places (from no.5 to no. 1) to sit comfortably at the top of the rankings.

Scores of 68*, 45 and 50 got Azam to finish as the top run-getter in the recently concluded 3-match T20I series against Australia. He scored a total of 163 runs at a strike rate of just over 117 to help Pakistan white wash Australia for the first time in a bilateral T20I series.

On the other hand, with scores of 1, 0, 3 and 1 in the four T20Is against UAE and Pakistan, Australian captain Aaron Finch lost his first-place on the rankings. Courtesy of his record breaking 172 in a T20I against Zimbabwe in July, Finch managed to hang on to the second position.

Babar

As per the latest update, Babar Azam is sitting at the top of the ICC T20I Batsmen Rankings with 844 rating points. Australia’s Aaron Finch (839 rating points), India’s Lokesh Rahul (812), New Zealand’s Colin Munro (801) and Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman (793) occupy the next four positions in the rankings.

With such a scintillating batting performance in the 3-match series against Australia, Babar Azam took his T20I career batting average to 56.56. He is now the only current player in T20I cricket to have an average of over 50 in this format of the game (minimum 20 T20I innings).

The T20 format was anticipated to be the end of spin bowlers. However, they are rising with each game and at the moment, 9 out of the top 10 places in the ICC T20I Bowler Rankings have been occupied by the spinners. The only pacer in the top 10 is Australia’s Billy Stanlake who is currently stationed at 9th position.
