Brilliant Asia Cup Outing for Hong Kong’s Ehsan Khan

After a couple of weeks of action in the United Arab Emirates, the 2018 Asia Cup has come to an end. It was usual business for India who won their seventh Asia Cup tournament against the top Asian teams. Sri Lanka missed out and so did Pakistan, but Bangladesh had a great tournament, ending with another close encounter against India – they always seem to be unable to complete games against the Men in Blue.

While it was just another regular tournament for these countries, it was an extremely special one for Hong Kong – a team that had battled it hard through the qualifiers to beat other Asian countries including UAE in the final to qualify to the main tournament. What’s better is that they did so even after losing the first game of that tournament.

It was a historic moment for them to qualify to the 2018 Asia Cup, but the team didn’t want to stop there. They wanted more. They were hungry to perform even against these top nations, and they did so, even though they didn’t manage a win against either Pakistan or India. However, they did manage a record-breaking 174-run opening partnership against India, while also giving them a lot to worry about in that game.

Ehsan

Read Scoops caught up with Ehsan Khan, 33-year old Hong Kong off-spin bowler to ask him about this tournament and how it has benefitted him. He said, “I managed to have a good chat with the likes of Dinesh Karthik, Rohit Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and the legend MS Dhoni. They spoke to me about my bowling and about the IPL. They really appreciated our team work and especially MSD, who spoke to me about future plans. He said to work on my fitness.”

Khan picked up 4 wickets in his two games in the 2018 Asia Cup and is clearly one of the vitals cogs in the Hong Kong line up. The Asia Cup would’ve been a huge learning experience for him and we expect many more such chances for this very good team.
