Fakhar Zaman 94 Gives Lahore Qalandars Another Win

What a scintillating knock it was from Pakistani international batsman Fakhar Zaman, which allowed Lahore Qalandars to register their third consecutive win at the 2018 Pakistan Super League. Opening the innings, he started cautiously but changed gears in the middle overs to score an entertaining 94(50), hitting the ball cleanly to all parts of the ground.

His innings included 9 fours and 6 sixes and allowed Lahore to get up to a score of 186/4 in their 20 overs, with help also coming from Gulraiz Sadaf, who scored an unbeaten 42(27)*. However, this is only another consolation victory for Lahore, as they began this season with 6 successive losses and are already out of contention of winning PSL 2018.

Zaman’s knock finally came to an end when Anwar Ali dismissed him. Zaman tried to bludgeon a fuller ball over the long-off boundary, but fell short and the ball was pocketed by Hasan Khan. Him falling in the 16th over meant that the Qalandars weren’t able to get a 200+ score that they were on course for. However, it was still the second highest total of the season and Zaman’s 94 was the highest individual score of the season, beating Shane Watson’s 90* from last week.

The Quetta Gladiators got off to a good start and with Jason Roy hitting a few sixes upfront, the game seemed to be swinging the Gladiators’ way. However, they quickly fell from 52/0 to 92/5 and the Qalandars took control once again. At one point, Rilee Rossouw threatened to take the game away, with 4 sixes in just 6 balls, but Mitchell McClenaghan had him bowled and that seemed to be the final nail in the coffin for Quetta.

Captain Sarfraz Ahmed tried his best towards the end with 28*, but it wasn’t enough as Quetta eventually fell short by 20 runs. However, they still have 5 wins in their 9 matches and are still healthy contenders for winning the PSL 3 trophy. That’s all we have to report from this game. More stuff to check out here:

Cheers!
