England is coming off the most dramatic and fantastic victory at the 2019 ICC World Cup final, beating New Zealand off the last ball of the super over. Now however, it’s the turn of the England Women to shine as they are hosting the Women’s Ashes 2019. They lost the ODIs comprehensively to Australia Women 0-3 and they must win this test if they want to successfully stay in contention of defending the Ashes.
It’s going to be tough for England Women to win this one considering the form the visitors have come with, but they’ll look to find some inspiration from the men’s team. Teams earn four points for a win and two for a draw in the Test scenario for the Women’s Ashes. Keep reading for our complete Howzat (sign-up with code “READ1234”) fantasy preview of the ENGW vs AUSW only Test…

Form (recent first)
- ENGW: D L L W

- Last 5 Tests between them, AUS-W lead 2-1 with 2 drawn.
- Alyssa Healy – 143 runs in 3 games in the ODI series.
- Tammy Beaumont – 134 runs in 3 games in the ODI series.
- Ellyse Perry – 72 runs, 11 wickets in the recent ODI series.
- In 4 ODIs here, there have been 3 scores of 300+.
Picking a wicket-keeper is what could make the difference for you in this game. Australia’s Alyssa Healy was the highest run-scorer in the ODIs but Tammy Beaumont was close behind. If I have to choose one, I’ll choose Beaumont as she has shown good form over a longer period, including being the highest run scorer in the ODI Championship this year. However, the best outcome here is if your fantasy provider let’s you choose both Healy and Beaumont.
Natalie Sciver was one of the best performers in the recent ODI series with 79 runs to go with 4 wickets in 3 games, so pick her if your budget allows. Leading the wickets charts for England Women is Anya Shrubsole with 5 wickets in her 3 games and 25 runs with the bat too, so you can pick her. If you wish to go with experience, Katherine Brunt should be your first choice. Danni Wyatt and Jenny GUnn have been left out of the squad.
Regardless of format, Ellyse Perry is always my first pick when Australia Women plays cricket. She had a tremendous ODI series which saw her pick one 5-fer and also end as the leading wicket-taker, and scoring important runs too. If playing a one-on-one contest, it makes sense to make her your captain while if you’re playing a grand league, a more risky pick as captain is suggested. Meg Lanning will captain the team, with 103 runs in the recent 3 ODIs.
Beth Mooney is expected to open the batting with Nicole Bolton and I’ll definitely have the former in my Howzat (sign-up with code “READ1234”) fantasy team, especially after her cracking 101* in the 1st innings of the recent warm-up game. Another century in that game was Ellyse Perry who scored 112 in the 2nd innings.
