CWC 2019 Match 2 – West Indies vs Pakistan Fantasy Preview

You ask any cricket fan to name to cricketing nations who have earned the tag of being the most unpredictable in international cricket, they will likely reply with West Indies and Pakistan. With Windies having won the ICC World Cup twice and Pakistan once, there’s clearly no scarcity of talent here, but it’s the consistency that matters. Can they perform and can their main players be reliable?

In Match 2 of the ICC 2019 World Cup, we have Windies vs Pakistan and it’s going to be one hell of a show, for sure. Both teams have brilliant pacers to go with an in-form top order. Windies are coming off a tri-series in Ireland where they lost the final to Bangladesh while Pakistan are coming off a 4-0 loss to England here, so both have had enough of match time. Stats

  • Pakistan have won 7 of their 13 ODIs here.
  • In 7 ODIs here, Windies have lost only once.
  • Chris Gayle has 179 runs in 3 ODIs here.
  • Babar Azam – 632 runs in 10 innings since coming to England.
  • Average 1st innings scores here – 252 runs.
  • Andre Russell – 510 runs and 11 wickets at IPL 2019.

West Indies

It’s a high-scoring ground with assistance to spinners, with England recording the world’s highest ODI score of 481 here. Windies have a slight dilemma of who they should open with between Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis and Shai Hope. Hope happens to be in the form of this life and this guy is a must-pick, recently scoring 3 centuries and 3 fifties in his last 8 international innings. Gayle is also coming off a brilliant IPL 2019 where he scored 490 runs in 13 games.

Let’s not forget that Gayle enjoys batting in England and he’s coming into his fifth and final World Cup highly determined to do well, scoring 135, 50, 162, 77 in 4 ODIs here a couple of months back. Lewis on the other hand didn’t have a great IPL 2019 with 48 runs in 3 games there. Here, however, he has two scores of 50 each in the warm-ups. Expect another high-scoring game and pack your fantasy team with batsmen.

Pakistan

Pakistan played an ODI here a couple of weeks back where England chased down 341 so you know it’s going to be a high-scoring game again. The batsmen have done brilliantly especially Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman. Azam has 3 centuries since landing in England and also a century in one of his 2 previous ODIs here. Zaman has also amassed over 450 runs since landing in England, in 10 games. Pick these two.

With the ball, pick Hasan Ali and Shadab Khan. While conditions are more suited to pacers, spin has done well here historically, not forgetting India’s Kuldeep Yadav’s 6-fer here. Shadab will be a less popular pick and he’s my x-factor player while Hasan Ali can be handy with the bat as well. Pick them in your Rotobash (sign-up to get Rs.100 FREE) fantasy team.
