The ICC 2019 World Cup isn’t exactly going the way we all planned it so far, with quite a few games being lost to rain. Australia is one of the cup favourites and they’ve made a good start to their campaign so far, losing only one of their four game to India. Apart from that game, they have looked great and are currently ranked #3 on the CWC 2019 points table.
Sri Lanka on the other hand have been lucky/unlucky of sorts, with 2 of their 4 games being wiped off. The games that had outcomes were one win and one loss which puts Sri Lanka on #5 on the points table as they prepare for Match 20 of CWC 2019, which is easily their biggest challenge yet. Keep reading for our CricMoney (sign-up to get Rs.25 FREE) fantasy preview of the SL vs AUS match…
- Tournament: 2019 ICC World Cup.
- Date: 15th June 2019, 3:00pm IST
- Venue: Kennington Oval, London.
- Capacity: 23,500+
- Series status: Match 20 of the round robin stage.
Form (recent first)
- SL: W L W L L
- AUS: W L W W W
- 3 out of 4 CWC 2019 games here have been won batting first.
- Sri Lanka have been bowled out for 136 and 201 in their 2 completed games.
- Head to head in World Cups, Australia lead 3-1.
- Head to head in neutral venues, Australia lead 8-2.
- Australia have won 8/16 ODIs here; Sri Lanka have won 5/12 ODIs here.
- Kusal Mendis has 177 runs in 3 previous ODIs here.
Nuwan Pradeep missed the last game due to a dislocated finger but he returned to training yesterday. However, a decision on his fitness will be taken at the last minute. On the other hand, Lasith Malinga had flown back for the funeral of his mother-in-law but is set to return to the team today. SL are playing 4 specialist bowlers so ensure you pick Thisara Perera, who has been their leader in runs and wickets in ODIs since 2018.
Kusal Mendis is undoubtedly one of the best batsmen in the Sri Lankan set-up and his break-out performances came against Australia itself. With scores of 0, 2 so far this World Cup, people won’t be picking him, so here’s your chance to rake in a few big bucks. Another experienced campaigner who won’t be in too many fantasy teams is Angelo Mathews, who bagged two DUCKS in two games so far but we all know who vital he is to this set-up.
After a successful IPL 2019 which saw him end with the Orange Cap and 692 runs, David Warner already has a fifty and a century at CWC 2019. Pick him like everyone else will do, but also pick all-rounder Glenn Maxwell who is growing as a cricketer and has matured in recent weeks. With captain Finch suggesting Australia will stick to the 4-bowler strategy, Maxwell is going to be putting in 6-8 overs every match and could pick up wickets too, even though he hasn’t so far.
A decision on Marcus Stoinis’ fitness will be taken at match-time but it seems unlikely that he will play which means Shaun Marsh will keep his place. With the Oval surface being a bit slow so far in CWC 2019, I would pick Adam Zampa in my CricMoney (sign-up to get Rs.25 FREE) fantasy team, provided that he comes in for Kane Richardson. Also pick Pat Cummins who has 32 wickets in his last 12 games and hasn’t gone wicketless in a single of those games.
