CWC 2019 Match 21 – South Africa vs Afghanistan Fantasy Preview

Okay so this is probably going to be an interesting game, since both teams are stuck at the bottom of the table. Luckily for South Africa, they had one of their four ICC 2019 World Cup games washed out, which allowed them to open their account with one shared point after losing their first three games. However, Afghanistan is still waiting for their account to be opened at CWC 2019. Both teams ave also had their fair share of controversies.

Clearly the Afghani team was the least favourite entering this tournament but in this bottom of the table clash, they will be looking to assert themselves and making an impact, with their first win in today’s SA vs AFG clash in Match 21. This will be the second game’s of this Saturday double-header. Keep reading for our Playing11 (sign-up to get Rs.50 FREE) fantasy preview of the SA vs AFG match…

Stats

  • 2 of 3 CWC 2019 games here have been won batting first.
  • South Africa have won only 1 of their previous 5 ODIs here.
  • Afghanistan lost their only previous ODI here.
  • This is the first ever ODI between South Africa and Afghanistan.
  • Mohammad Nabi picked up 4/30 in his only other ODI here.

South Africa

Quinton de Kock should be the first name in your fantasy team, considering the Afghan wicket-keeper has been sent home and Qdk has good form with over 500 runs in the recent IPL 2019. On the other hand, no one will be picking Hashim Amla because he made scores of 13, 6, 6 so far in CWC 2019 but this is your value bomb pick, while Rassie van der Dussen is an undervalued cricketer. He has 5 fifties in just 11 ODI innings for SA so far.

Only one will play between JP Duminy and Aiden Markram and considering SA already have a 5-bowler attack, they may just consider picking Markram. With the ball, picking Kagiso Rabada in your fantasy team is a no-brainer. Phehlukwayo and Morris are not the best options with the ball but they bowl their quota and they’re pretty handy with the bat as well, so because of these all-round abilities, I’ll have them in my team.

Afghanistan

Firs two people you need to pick in your fantasy team are the IPL 2019 stars Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan. Nabi has been more effective with the ball so far but the spin wizard Rashid is never far from a match-winning performance. He is back from a bad it to the head and knowing the fighter that he is, we’re expecting a good show from Rashid tonight. Remember, Rashid Khan has 101 wickets since 2017, as compared to Rabada’s 67.

Mohammad Shahzad was ruled out of CWC 2019 because of his ‘fitness’ and the replacement keeper is a lower-order batsman. One person I can’t miss in my Playing11 (sign-up to get Rs.50 FREE) fantasy team in Najibullah Zadran, who scored 51 and 43 in the first two games before a failure (4) vs New Zealand. Asghar Afghan could also be a good pick who hasn’t performed in this tournament but had a string of 5 consecutive ODI fifties before this WC began.
