CWC 2019 Match 32 – England vs Australia Fantasy Preview

This is probably the match of the tournament so far. The defending champions and 5-time World Cup winners Australia take on the hosts and the tournament favourites England in Match 32 of the ICC 2019 World Cup. It’s going to be hard to call this one but we may be looking at a match that could even be replayed in the final of CWC 2019.

England hit a slight bump on their very smooth journey so far. While Australia just lost 1 of their 6 games thus far, England have lost 2, including their latest loss against Sri Lanka. Furthermore, Australia even beat England in the warm-up game before the tournament so you know where my money is for today’s game. Stats

  • Only CWC 2019 game at this ground so far – PAK won by 49 runs.
  • England have won 24 of their 53 previous ODIs here.
  • Australia have won 12 of their 20 previous ODIs here.
  • Eoin Morgan – 501 runs in 14 ODIs here (5x50s).
  • Joe Root – 350 runs in 6 ODIs here (1×100, 2x50s).
  • Last 11 ODIs head to head, England lead 10-1.

England

The pitch seems to fancy those bowlers who can really bang it in hard, so I’ll be fancying the likes of Liam Plunkett here, who has 12 wickets in just 6 ODIs at the Home of Cricket. Mark Wood is a similar type of bowler but only one of them will play. Pick whoever makes the side. Having played one of the best ODI innings of his life vs Sri Lanka, Ben Stokes seems to be back to his old self and he’s someone I would want in my fantasy team for sure. Maybe even as captain or vice-captain.

Bad news for England is that Jason Roy, who was supposed to be out for 2 games is now going to miss this clash as well. James Vince will continue to be a cover up but scores of 26 and 14 means I won’t be picking him today. Adil Rashid is worth picking in your fantasy team as he enjoys a good record of 35 wickets in 19 ODIs vs Australia. Also, he seems to have found some rhythm in CWC 2019 having picked 5 wickets in his last 2 games.

Australia

Just like we mentioned about Plunkett, Pat Cummins seems to be a similar kind of bowler, having picked up 5 wickets in 2 previous ODIs at Lord’s. Cummins went wicketless for the first time in around 13 games against Bangladesh, but I’d back him to be back among the runs in the next game. Similarly, Mitchell Starc hasn’t been at his lethal best but somehow, he manages to keep chipping away at wickets, being among the top wicket-takers in the tournament so far.

With the bat, Aaron Finch enjoys a phenomenal record against England, which boasts of 1,153 runs in just 25 ODIs, including 6 centuries and 4 fifties, and a stunning average of 50+. Given his recent form in CWC 2019 too, he should definitely be a part of your Nostragamus (sign-up with “READSCOOPS” to get Rs.100 FREE) fantasy picks. David Warner is also consistently bringing in big scores and if you have enough of credits, pick him too. Or else, Usman Khawaja could be a valuable pick.
