CWC 2019 Match 34 – West Indies vs India Fantasy Preview

The pressure is on Team India at the moment. After having a relaxed schedule in the first half of this tournament, they now play 3 games in the next 8-10 days at the ICC 2019 World Cup, starting with this fixture in Match 34 against West Indies. In what promises to be an exciting clash, India begin as strong favourites but the Caribbean boys showed great heart in their last game against New Zealand, making a massive comeback to lose by just 5 runs.

India have managed 4 wins in their 5 games at CWC 2019 so far, with one being washed out. On the other hand, Windies have only 1 win in their 6 games and they’re virtually out of contention in this global tournament. Stats

  • 3 CWC 2019 matches here – ALL have been won batting first.
  • West Indies have won 2 of their 7 ODIs at this venue.
  • India have won 4 of their 9 ODIs at this venue.
  • Chris Gayle – 124 runs in 2 previous ODIs here.
  • Rohit Sharma scored 140 in his only previous ODI here.
  • Last 15 ODIs head to head, West Indies have only won 2.

West Indies

Even though he has 4 centuries and 5 fifties against India in ODIs, Chris Gayle has usually not been able to bring his A-game against India, so I won’t be wasting too many credits on him. With the swing of Bumrah and Bhuvi early on, I don’t see Gayle surviving the first 5 overs. On the other hand, Shai Hope could be a massive weapon for his team today. With some stunning form and a few centuries coming into CWC 2019, Hope has 2 fifties so far in the tournament. Against India too, he has 1 centuries and 3 fifties in just 9 ODI innings.

Jason Holder is going to be key for West Indies today and I’ll pick him in my fantasy side only because of his all-round abilities and him promoting himself to the middle order in recent games. With the ball, it’s going to be a test of pace and bounce for the India batsmen and considering they haven’t seen much of Oshane Thomas and Sheldon Cottrell in the past, I’ll be picking both bowlers in my fantasy team. Kemar Roach hasn’t picked a wicket in his 2 CWC 2019 games so far, so I’ll skip him.

India

Talking abut run scoring and Virat Kohli has to be the first name to pop into your mind. In all of IND vs WI ODI history, Kohli has become the highest run getter with 1,840 runs at a stunning average of 70+ including 7 centuries and 9 fifties in 32 innings. With 82, 77 and 67 in his last 3 outings, Kohli will be itching to go on and convert one to a World Cup century. Opening batsman Rohit Sharma also has a brilliant record against West Indies, so you can pick him too.

Sharma has 2 centuries and 10 fifties at an average of 64+ against WI. India will have a slight dilemma when it comes to the bowling attack. They generally don’t play around with winning combinations and will find it tough to drop Mohammed Shami after his 4/40 and hat-trick in the last game. He has also done well in IND vs WI clashes, with 24 wickets in 11 ODIS, so make sure you include him in your Nostragamus (sign-up with “READSCOOPS” to get Rs.100 FREE) fantasy picks.
