First things first. Let’s get the qualification scenario straight. Bangladesh is out of the ICC 2019 World Cup with just 3 wins in their 8 games so far while England beating New Zealand has ruined it for Pakistan as well. The latter need to win by 316 runs or more to qualify to the semi-finals which has never been done before in ODI history, so you can rule Pakistan safely out of CWC 2019 as well, with 4 wins in their 8 games.
Pakistan’s unpredictability was their downfall but they have had a late surge here with 3 consecutive wins and if not for a crushing loss to WI at the start of the cup, it could’ve been a different situation today. Both teams will be looking for a win to end their campaign on a high. Expect a good game of cricket. Bangladesh has played mature cricket throughout this World Cup but it has been sad to see their most experienced player Tamim Iqbal managing only 1 fifty in 7 ODIs. I’ll drop him and pick Soumya Sarkar instead, who has also had a poor campaign with 144 runs in 7 ODIs but he has picked up 4 wickets in 2 bowling innings and will be a less popular pick. Mushfiqur Rahim was hit in the elbow but is most likely to play; wait for the toss on this decision.
Don’t expect many changes for Bangladesh as they would want to end on a high. Picking Shakib al Hasan is a no-brainer as he has had a record-breaking World Cup with 11 wickets and 542 runs, something that no one else has achieved in the history of the Cricket World Cup. He should be your captain in one-on-one contests. Another valuable player is Mohammad Saifuddin who has picked up 10 wickets in 6 games, and also scored a lovely 51* against India.
Pakistan my fiddle around with their order a bit. Asif Ali has not got too much game time and they might bring him in for Haris Sohail if required. On the other hand, this will be 38-year old Mohammad Hafeez’s last World Cup match so pick him for sure; the all-rounder has 226 runs and 2 wickets but is capable of much more, having bowled in every game so far. Also, he seems to throw away his wicket after good starts.
Wahab Riaz also may have a slightly niggle so if he isn’t 100% fit, Pakistan can give a game to Mohammad Hasnain, who is yet to get a WC debut. Pick the bowlers who are sure to play – Mohammad Amir and Shaheen Afridi in my Nostragamus (sign-up with “READSCOOPS” for Rs.100 FREE) fantasy picks, with these guys have 16 and 10 wickets in 7 and 4 games respectively. All-rounder Imad Wasim could be your x-factor player.
