A youth tri-series is taking place in England at the moment between the hosts, India and Bangladesh. So far, it has been a complete dominance by the Asian sides as England U-19 has only managed a single victory in their 5 games while India U-19 hasn’t had the best of outings as yet either, winning their first 2 and then faltering, now having 2 wins in 5 games.
Match 9 is once again between the hosts and India and this time, it’s like a virtual semi final for the two. A win is vital for both to climb up the points table and make the final. - Tournament: England U-19 ODI tri-series 2019.
- Date: 3rd August 2019, 3:30pm IST
- Venue: County Ground, Chelmsford.
- Capacity: 6,500+
- Series status: Round Robin stage.
Form (recent first)
- ENG U19: L L W L L
- IND U19: L NR L W W
- Jack Haynes – 193 runs in 5 games so far this series.
- Nick Kimber – 6 wickets in 4 games so far.
- Kartik Tyagi – 7 wickets in 3 games so far.
- Yashasvi Jaiswal – 152 runs in 3 games so far.
With the bat, Jack Haynes has easily been the most consistent with 193 runs so far including a top score of 89 against India U-19 itself. Prior to this series too, he had three consecutive fifties, one for England U19 and two for the Worcestershire 2nd XI, so the form has been pretty decent in recent months.
Another person you can consider with the bat is Lewis Goldsworthy, who has also racked up the runs this series, scoring 176 runs in 5 games including 2 fifties to begin the series. He is often thrown the ball and also has a wicket in this series. Nick Kimber is their leading wicket-taker with 6 wickets in 4 games but remember, 5 of them came in the last game itself against Bangladesh U-19, where he picked 5/38 and scored 11 runs.
India has been adopting a rotational policy so be careful of who you select in your Nostragamus (sign-up with “READSCOOPS” for Rs.100 FREE) fantasy picks, choosing after the toss if possible. Shubhang Hegde was one of my favourites since he wasn’t dismissed in 3 innings and even picked up 6 wickets in 3 games, but he wasn’t picked for the next 2 games. If he makes it back to the team I’d like to have him in my fantasy team.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has been India U-19’s highest scorer so far, with 152 runs in just 3 games. Again, he missed two games because of the rotational policy but if he plays, he should be part of your fantasy team. India U-19 is being captained by Dhruv Jurel who has 111 runs in 3 games including 7 catches and a top score of 70 in his last game.
