The Brampton Wolves was the only new franchise taking part in the 2019 GT20 Canada and so far, they’ve done a brilliant job on debut, winning 4 out of their 4 games so far and perching themselves nicely on top of the points table. See more about them here. Today, they’ll take on defending champions Vancouver Knights and this will be their biggest challenge so far, as the latter has some of the biggest names in their squad.
After winning the season last year, Knights have 2 wins in 4 games and they are currently on the second spot on the points table. While West Indies is playing India in USA in a T20 series, Knights have retained their two big Windies stars in Russell and Gayle. - Tournament: 2019 Global T20 Canada.
- Date: 4th August 2019, 10:00pm IST
- Venue: CAA Centre, Brampton, Ontario.
- Capacity: 5,000+
- Series status: Round Robin stage.
Form (recent first)
- VK: W NR L W
- BRW: W W W W
- Chris Gayle – 273 runs in 4 games in GT20 Canada 2019.
- George Munsey – 150 runs in 4 games – 2x50s.
- Ish Sodhi – 11 wickets in 4 games in the tournament.
- Shahid Afridi – 89 runs, 5 wickets so far in GT20 2019.
First and obvious pick for you in this game would have to be Chris Gayle, considering the threatening form he has been in. He and Andre Russell have both selected to drop themselves from the India series to stay here but Russell has had a prolonged injury since a few months now, so I’ll skip him, especially after his first-ball duck in the last game. On the other hand, Gayle is the tournament’s highest scorer with a century, a fifty and a 200+ strike rate.
Rassie van der Dussen has also been brilliant for his team, being the second-highest run scorer last year in GT20 Canada 2018. He has 160 runs in 3 games here but is unlikely to play today as he and Andile Phehlukwayo may head home to attend the CSA Awards in South Africa. Similarly, Zahoor Khan and Rohan Mustafa left to play the UAE series against Netherlands, where 1 of the scheduled 4 T20s have completed. I’d suggest picking Ali Khan with the ball, who swings it well early on and so far, has 4 wickets in 4 games.
The opening pair has been the biggest plus point for Brampton so far, with George Munsey scoring 150 runs and 2 fifties and Lendl Simmons scoring 137 runs including 1 fifty. Pick them both in your Nostragamus (sign-up with “READSCOOPS” for Rs.100 FREE) fantasy picks, while captain Colin Munro could also be a good choice, whose one innings of 53* was an indicator of what he’s capable of doing in the T20 format.
All-rounders are key in T20 and the evergreen Shahid Afridi just never seems to get old, with the 38-year old recently smashing his team to victory while also being among the wickets, making him the most valuable player in the team so far; Afridi is my captain for today. The pitch here is slowing down and the importance of spinners will increase, so Ish Sodhi, the tournament leader, must definitely be in your fantasy team today.
