India vs Australia – 5th ODI Fantasy Preview

If you watched the 4th ODI between India and Australia, you would really be lost for words. India managed to put up a 350+ score in the 1st innings but the crowds were stunned as the home team didn’t manage to defend it, despite having one of the best bowling sides in limited overs cricket.

The reasons? Poor fielding, one. Poor wicket-keeping, two. The absence of MS Dhoni, three. Clearly, his control of the game in the middle overs was missed here as Australia put up 200+ for the 3rd wicket and it was just the second time ever that the Chahal-Kuldeep duo were both hit for 60+ in a game. However, the series is level at 2-2 and the stage is set for what should be a thrilling 5th ODI and the final game of this tour, at Delhi. Keep reading for our complete fantasy preview of the game…

India vs Australia 5th ODI fantasy preview

Form (recent first)

  • India: L L W W W L W W
  • Australia: W W L L L L W L

Stats

  • India have lost just 1 of their last 9 ODIs at this ground.
  • Australia have won only 2 of their 5 ODIs here.
  • Jasprit Bumrah picked up 3/35 in his only previous ODI here.
  • Pat Cummins has picked up 12 wickets at a stunning average of 15.16 in this series.
  • Virat Kohli has 290 runs in this series; Usman Khawaja has 283 runs.

India

The pitch is slightly slower than the belter we saw recently at Mohali, and here, the best score is 330/8 by West Indies, with 300+ being scored just twice. What that means is the duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal will be looking at a better outing than their previous one in Mohali. Kuldeep is overly popular in fantasy leagues and I’ll go in for Chahal and Bumrah as my bowlers, while all-rounders Kedar Jadhav and Vijay Shankar will be in too, as you expect 10 overs or more from them.

With the bat, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan both hit form in the last ODI, while Virat Kohli is always in great form, so it becomes a bit tough to choose between them. I’d suggest picking Dhawan and Kohli, as consistency isn’t something Rohit has been great at over the years. Vijay Shankar has been one of the finds of this tour for me, and he will be my captain for this game.

Australia

I asked to drop Aaron Finch in my fantasy preview of the 4th ODI and it turned out to be a great call. Once again, I’ll be dropping him, while dropping Khawaja as well, as 2 fifties and 1 hundred means he’ll be in almost everyone’s teams. Expect the Indians to pick up a few early wickets and Peter Handscomb coming into action early again, while Shaun Marsh is overdue a big score as well.

With the gloves, make sure you pick Alex Carey as Rishabh Pant had a horrible game behind the wickets, while he hasn’t fully understood the ODI format as yet, looking to hit every ball out of the stadium. With the ball, drop the overly popular Cummins and go in for a higher value bowler in Jhye Richardson. Don’t miss Adam Zampa either.
