IPL 2019 Match 14 – RR vs RCB Fantasy Preview

These kind of contests often turn out to be the best contests, where two of the lowest ranked teams take each other on. Here, we have Rajasthan Royals hosting Royal Challengers Bangalore in Match 14 of the 2019 Indian Premier League, both ranked at the bottom, at 7th and 8th place respectively.

Clearly, these teams haven’t been ‘Royals’ in IPL 2019 so far, but the good side to it is that after this game, one team would’ve opened their account this season. However, we must admit that there has been a mile of difference between the two teams thus far. Rajasthan has tried to win games. As for Bangalore, I can’t say the same. IPL 2019 Mach 14 - RR vs RCB fantasy preview

Form (recent first)

  • RR: L L L
  • RCB: L L L

Stats

  • In BBL 2018-19, Marcus Stoinis hit 4 fifties as opener, averaging 62.40 in 10 games.
  • Virat Kohli will captain RCB for the 100th time; he needs 40 runs to complete 8,000 T20 runs.
  • Jaydev Unadkat (9.08) has the 4th worst middle-overs economy rate since IPL 2018.
  • Jofra Archer’s economy rate this year has been 6.3 as compared to RR’s other pacers’ 11.3.

Rajasthan

The Royals have put themselves in winning positions in all three games, but haven’t seized the advantage. Ashton Turner joins the squad after completing national duties but he will be warming the bench as none of Smith, Buttler, Stokes or Archer should be dropped. The batting looks good, but I’d like to see Rahul Tripathi open with Buttler and let Rahane bat down a few spots. Tripathi’s 39(24) was crucial in the last game but he has always looked more threatening as an opener.

In the bowling department, Jaydev Undkat was purchased with a very expensive price tag, but I don’t see him being very effective so far. He has just 2 wickets in 3 games in IPL 2019, once going for 0/44 and in the last game going for 0/54. Even on good batting pitches, these are bad bowling efforts. Varun Aaron is on the bench and if a change has to be made, I’d suggest this one..

Bangalore

As for the visitors, all I’d suggest is a little bit of stability. Virat Kohli needs to stop chopping and changing his team. However, a couple of changes are surely expected for this game. RCB is boosted by the return of Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Coulter-Nile from national duties, and it’s highly likely they both enter the side. Stoinis had a brilliant Big Bash 2018/19 and I see him coming straight in for Shimron Hetmyer, who has pathetic returns of 0, 5 and 9 in IPL 2019.

What’s better is that Stoinis provides that extra bowling option that RCB seems to lack. Coulter-Nile too should come into the tea, probably in place of Colin de Grandhomme. In past seasons, RCB has shown to prefer CDG over Moeen Ali, so I’d avoid picking both in my fantasy teams. Another change I would suggest but seems unlikely is bringing Washington Sundar in place of Shivam Dubey. Sundar always gives you 4 overs while Dubey is yet to bowl a complete over this year, with a best score of 9*.
