IPL 2019 Match 2 – KKR vs SRH Fantasy Preview

We’re looking at two very strong teams, not because of the names on paper but because of strong and consistent performances they have put up over the last few years in the Indian Premier League (IPL). We’re talking about Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as they gear up to take on each other in Match 2 of IPL 2019, which is also the first day game of the season.

If you do sit down and check out the names on paper, you will see more star players and big hitters of the ball in the KKR line-up, but explosion is not everything in T20 cricket, as tactful strategies are equally important. That’s where SRH captain Kane Williamson excels. We’re set for an exciting match of cricket, where we think it’s going to be KKR’s batting against SRH’s bowling. Kolkata

KKR is playing this game at home and they have had a formidable record at Eden Gardens over the years. Their spin brigade consists of the likes of Piyush Chawla, Sunil Narine, Kuldeep Yadav and KC Cariappa. Ensure you have Kuldeep in your team, given his extensive rise and international experience in the last 1 year. Narine too, is considered an all-rounder now, and leaving him out is too much of a gamble.

Kolkata’s fast bowling woes increase as Anrich Nortje is sidelined for this opener with an injury. Spots to Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell are locked up for the rest of IPL 2019, which means one place up for an overseas pacer. This could be the weak link. Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti were ruled out before Nortje, but you can expect one of Harry Gurney or Lockie Ferguson to play. I would believe the latter will get a chance, but let’s skip picking both of them.

Hyderabad

David Warner will be back to the SRH squad by the end of March, finishing a 1-year suspension for ball tampering. Till then however, it’s going to be Kane Williamson who will be the anchor in the batting efforts. The much loved Warner-Dhawan partnership won’t be seen again by Orange Army fans, and SRH will be looking for a good enough replacement. My four overseas picks would be Jonny Bairstow, Rashid Khan, Kane Williamson and Billy Stanlake.

However, with spin assistance at the Eden Gardens, I would be tempted to play Shakib al Hasan or Mohammad Nabi as an extra spinner, and I’m edging towards the latter. Sit pretty with Rashid in your fantasy team, and don’t be too sure about Williamson too, as he is a doubtful starter, with reports of him nursing a shoulder injury. Please pick Vijay Shankar in your team as captain or vice-captain as he has grown tremendously as an all-rounder in the last few months.
