IPL 2019 Match 27 – MI vs RR Fantasy Preview

Not too many times before in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) may you have seen Mumbai Indians in the top half of the points table at the start of a season. They’ve won 3 consecutive matches to take their tally to 4 wins from 6 games and playing at home today, there’s a high chance this becomes 4 consecutive games, especially since they’re playing a down and out team, Rajasthan Royals.

The Royals have been very unlucky this entire IPL 2019 season, managing only 1 win in 6 games, but we say unlucky because they have had many tight finishes. They haven’t been able to keep their composure in pressure situations and the last game against CSK is a prime example, where they couldn’t defend 18 in the final over. IPL 2019 Match 27 - MI vs RR fantasy preview

Form (recent first)

  • MI: W W W L W
  • RR: L L W L L

Stats

  • 30.3 is Hardik Pandya’s batting average this year – his highest in any IPL season yet.
  • However, Hardik has an economy rate of 15.2 in the death overs.
  • Jaydev Unadkat has only 3 wickets in 4 matches in IPL 2019.
  • Shreyas Gopal has 8 wickets in 6 games so far.

Mumbai

Mumbai start as outright favourites and rightly so. If one person was struggling so far in IPL 2019, it was Kieron Pollard and he put all those doubts to rest with 83(31) after promoting himself up the order, a game after he scored 46* as well. Clearly, the West Indian is back and is in dangerous form. However, scores of 17 and 7 for the young Ishan Kishan hasn’t justified his place ahead of Yuvraj Singh thus far.

The only expected change in the line up is captain Rohit Sharma coming back in, replacing Siddhesh Lad who did well on his IPL debut. He has got double digit scores in all his 5 innings so far this year, but hasn’t got a fifty yet. Can he carry on today and get a big score at his home ground? We believe so. He’s our captain for today. No other changes expected. Both Pandya brothers make the team and Hardik is my vice-captain.

Rajasthan

The Royals need to make some changes in order to see a change in fortunes. One I could suggest is bringing in Ashton Turner in the middle, and replacing either Ben Stokes or Steve Smith. Even though they are among the best in the world, they have looked very out of sorts and this may be a tough decision but Turner’s recent match-winning knock of 84(43)* against India gets him my vote. I would bring him in for Smith as Stokes offers a bowling option and is also lightning in the field.

Regardless of Jaydev Unadkat not being among the wickets so far this year, he looked good in the last game and he’s definitely among my bowlers for today. I will also be picking Shreyas Gopal and skipping Jofra Archer, as he has been brilliant in the death overs but hasn’t been picking regular wickets.
