IPL 2019 Qualifier 1 – MI vs CSK Fantasy Preview

After a month and a half of round robin action, we have only four matches left in the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Here, we begin with Qualifier 1, where #1 plays #2 on the points table for a chance to qualify straight to the finals. Mumbai Indians topped the points table but it’s a slight upper hand to Chennai Super Kings in this game, as the latter have the crucial home advantage.

Mumbai happens to be the only team to have a dominance over Chennai and that trend continued even in IPL 2019. The winner here goes straight to the final and if we have to be completely honest, MI is looking to be a more well-oiled unit than CSK at the moment. However, let’s not forget than CSK is led by the genius, MS Dhoni. Keep reading for our Fantain (Use Code “READ123”) fantasy preview for the MI vs CSK game…

Stats

  • Head to head, MI lead CSK 16-12.
  • Head to head at this venue, MI lead CSK 5-2.
  • In IPL 2019, MI won both matches against CSK.
  • Deepak Chahar only has 3 wickets in his last 4 matches.
  • 59, 53 – Suresh Raina’s last 2 innings in IPL 2019.

Mumbai

Hardik Pandya has been Mumbai’s weapon of mass destruction in IPL 2019, with 380 runs in 14 games at a strike rate of nearly 200 and a average of nearly 48. To add to that, he has 14 wickets of which 4 have come in the last 2 games so I don’t see why he shouldn’t be my Fantain (Use Code “READ123”) fantasy team captain for this game.

Kiwi quick Mitchell McClenaghan bowled brilliantly in the last league game, giving away only 19 runs in his 4 overs, including a maiden. However, there’s a high chance Mumbai go in for just 3 overseas players for this game and drop McClenaghan for an extra spinner in Mayank Markhande or Anukul Roy. These two haven’t been all that great this year so I’ll avoid them anyway, but pick Rahul Chahar on this spin-friendly Chepauk pitch.

Chennai

Massive changes could be coming in for CSK for this Qualifier 1. Kedar Jadhav has been ruled out of the rest of IPL 2019 with a shoulder injury which has dented their middle order badly. Having had a poor season with the bat, Ambati Rayudu’s form with the bat hasn’t helped either, while the first-choice replacement Dhruv Shorey doesn’t seem to be much of a threat to Mumbai Indians either.

One massive change CSK could think about is dropping Shane Watson after all the faith they’ve showed in him this season, for Mitchell Santner. Apart from that, no changes are expected. Faf du Plessis has hit form at the right time and he’s in my team, while MS Dhoni is my wicket-keeper pick, even though QdK bats at the top. I’d also like to pick the experienced Harbhajan Singh, who has 10 wickets in his last 6 games this year. On the other hand, I’d take a chance and drop Deepak Chahar, who has lost some steam this season.
