Knights vs Dolphins – 2019 Momentum Cup Fantasy Preview

We’re diving into new territory now, doing our first ever fantasy preview of the South African domestic match. While South Africa have been demolishing Sri Lanka on the international front, let’s take a look at the 2019 Momentum One Day Cup, where the Knights are taking on the Dolphins in Kimberley. Remember, in the last game played here, 20 wickets fell in a day, so fill your team with bowlers and all-rounders.

The franchises play each other twice every season and this will be their second meeting this year, with the Knights losing the reverse fixture one and honestly, they have had a poor season altogether, currently last on the points table. However, their first win came in the last game and that could be an encouraging factor. Keep reading for our fantasy preview of Match 24 of the Momentum One Day Cup….

  • Knights have only won 1 of their last 5 encounters with Dolphins.
  • The average 1st innings score at this ground is 223.

Knights

For sure, you want to have someone like Ryan McLaren in your team, and I’d even consider making him my captain due to his abilities with the bat and ball, both. The ex-international has 213 runs in this competition so far, to go with 4 wickets. Keegan Paterson has been their highest scorer, with 292 runs in 5 innings and he is a must-have in your team as well.

They have struggled to pick up wickets in this competition but their only saving grace has been Marchant de Lange, who is their leading wicket-taker with 12 scalps this season, while the next best is Jacques Snyman, with only 4 wickets. It’s going to be a fight for the wicket-keeper position as both of Rudi Second and Andries Gous have been good.

Dolphins

Coming to that wicket-keeper position, remember that Dane Vilas has been great as well, with 198 runs and 2 fifties in the competition. However, we’re expecting Dolphins to be good at the top and not lose too many wickets, and Vilas may not get too much of a hit. Also, Rudi Second from the Knights has 3 fifties in his 4 innings so far, so he would make a better pick.

We’re waiting for a word of the fitness of Khaya Zondo, the Dolphins captain. The players has played 5 ODIs for South Africa and is vastly experienced, but because of his back strain and uncertainty of playing, we’re leaving him out. Instead, pick Keshav Maharaj. Maharaj too has tons of experience and maybe the captain’s role will bring the best out of him. This season, he has been poor, with just 2 wickets at a bowling average of 97!
