Marsh One Day Cup 2019 – NSW vs TAS Fantasy Preview

The Marsh One Day Cup 2019 began last month on 21st September and after a few games, there was a break of a couple of weeks. We return now after a few Sheffield Shield Games and we’re here to talk about Match 13 of the series which takes place between New South Wales and Tasmania. It’s a battle of the bottom of the table as NSW is at #5 ad Tasmania is at #6 on the points table.

Usually a champion side which is tough to beat across all formats, MSW hasn’t had the best of starts to this tournament with just 1 win in 4 games and the same goes with Tasmania, with 1 win in 4 games. NSW has a higher net run rate and is slightly higher but today’s winner will steer away from that bottom spot. Numbers

  • Head to head in last 5 games, NSW leads 3-2.
  • Daniel Hughes – 300 runs in 4 games this tournament.
  • Riley Meredith – 8 wickets in 4 games this tournament.
  • Moises Henriques – 219 runs, 2 wickets this tournament.
  • Steven Smith in 7 innings in Ashes 2019 – 774 runs.

New South Wales

Big boost for NSW is that 6 of their Ashes stars in Steve Smith, David Warner, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon will all return and are available to play their first game of the 2019 Marsh One Day Cup. Steve Smith had a dream run in Ashes 2019 with 3 fifties and 3 centuries in 7 innings, with a 110+ batting average. I’ll skip David Warner who only managed 95 runs in 10 innings and is probably at the lowest low of his career.

If Smith was the leader with the bat, Pat Cummins was the leader with the ball with 29 wickets in 5 games so he’s someone you can definitely not keep out of your fantasy side. Hazlewood and Lyon both had 20 wickets each in Ashes 2019 but they haven’t historically been good one-day bowlers, so I’ll keep them out. Instead, I’ll pick the all-round Sean Abbott who has 5 wickets in 4 games so far to go with a top score of 26 in two batting innings.

Tasmania

Captain Matthew Wade and pacer Jackson Bird are both not available for this game which means Jordan Silk will led the team in Wade’s absence. 22, 42, 27, 87 are Silk’s scores in 4 games this tournament and he’s definitely in my team for his consistency. Their top scorer however so far is Ben McDermott with 219 runs in 4 games including 1 fifty and 1 century, so he’s also in my team.

Riley Meredith has been their leading wicket-taker so far while James Faulkner isn’t too far behind and because of all his international experience, the latter makes my Fantain (Use Code “READ123”) fantasy team. He has 7 wickets and scores of 1, 5, 2*, 3* so far. Beau Webster has only 36 runs and no wickets so far but he could be your x-factor fantasy pick because he’s coming off 2 wickets and a score of 65 in his last FC game.
