Another day and another double header at the 2019 National T20 Cup in Pakistan where 6 teams are battling it out for the trophy. Earlier in the day, we have Match 7 where Khyber play Sindh and later the same evening at the same ground, we have Balochistan facing off against Central Punjab in Match 8, both having played 2 games each so far in the tournament.
All teams currently have 1 win in 2 games each but Central Punjab has managed to take the second from lowest spot on the table with almost the lowest net run rate while Balochistan has occupied the top spot with the best run rate. Yesterday, Punjab won their game by 4 wickets against Northern Punjab, with 1 ball to spare. Form (recent first)
- BAL: W L
- CEP: W L
- Head to head, these two teams are playing each other for the first time.
- Awais Zia scores in 2 games this tournament – 31, 77.
- Haris Sohail in 3 games against Sri Lanka recently – 40, 56, 52.
Pick your wicket-keeper batsman from this team as Bismillah Khan is lesser known and he scored 54 in the last game. His form has been good as he also got twin fifties against Central Punjab last month. Opening batsman Awais Zia is another high value pick because he scored a match-winning innings in the last game and is also coming off a century against Central 2nd XI a couple of weeks back.
Captain Haris Sohail hasn’t had the best start to this tournament with scores of 0 and 11 so far but he is a versatile player who chances his arm with the ball once in a way too. Pick him as he had a good outing against Sri Lanka recently too. With the ball, Yasir Shah is among the most experienced but he has also been very expensive. Pick Amad Butt who has 4 wickets in 2 games including 35 runs. X-factor – Akif Javed, who also picked 3 wickets in the previous game.
Wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal has scores of 4 and 6 so far so I’ll skip him while his brother Umar Akmal has been considered as a T20 specialist batsman who you can consider if he fits in your budget. At the top, Ahmed Shehzad smashed 111* in pursuit of 223 in the last game, giving them a match winning innings, but I’d skip him for opening partner and national team batsman Babar Azam as both will be expensive picks.
Hassan Ali is still out with injury while Faheem Ashraf has been doing a good job with the ball, so you can add him to your Howzat (sign-up with code “READ1234”) fantasy team for sure. Ashraf has 5 wickets in 2 games including 3/44 in the last game where he also got 28 with the bat. Medium pacer Waqas Maqsood has also had a wicket-taking season so far and here, has 4 wickets in 2 games including a 3-fer in the opening game.
