New Zealand is currently in action against England but in the domestic circuit, we have the 2019 Ford Trophy underway, the country’s premier ODD competition. Today, we have three more matches scheduled at the same time at different venues. One of them is Match 10 between Canterbury and Northern Districts, at Christchurch.
Currently, Canterbury has managed to keep the top spot on the points table with 2 wins in their 3 games, while Northern Districts are in the bottom half with just a single win in their three games. - Tournament: 2019 Ford Trophy.
- Date: 27th November 2019, 3:30am IST.
- Venue: Hagley Oval, Christchurch.
- Capacity: 8,000+
- Series status: Round Robin stage.
- CTB: W W NR
- NK: W L L
- Head to head in last 5 games, these two are tied 2-2.
- In the reverse fixture, Canterbury won by 84 runs.
- In 8 completed games so far, 5 have been won batting first.
- Anurag Verma – 17 wickets in last 10 professional games.
37-year old Andrew Ellis brings a lot of experience to the side, having played 20 games for New Zealand as well. Here, he has 7 wickets in 3 games and he’s also got scores of 4* and 14* so far, meaning he can add a few runs to the total if required. Another player to pick with the ball is Andrew Hazeldine who has managed 5 wickets in the 2 games he’s played so far. Both haven’t gone wicketless yet.
Jack Boyle is the team’s highest scorer with 147 runs in 3 games, but most of it came in one innings of 126. Hence, I’d rather pick South African born Chad Bowes who has 124 runs in 3 games but has been more consistent this tournament. Pick Todd Astle as your all-rounder as he has 2 wickets and 68 runs in just 2 games played so far and also has international experience of late.
Their highest wicket-taker so far has been Anurag Verma with 7 scalps in 3 games, and at least one wicket in each game. Prior to this, he picked up a 3-fer against a full strength England XI side in a T20 warm-up game, so he can’t be left out for sure. Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi has had a poor recent few months with only 6 wickets in his last 10 games, but I’ll pick him for all his experience around the world.
Another very valuable player for your Nostragamus (sign-up with “READSCOOPS” for Rs.100 FREE) fantasy team is Daryl Mitchell who made his T20I debut earlier this year and has played 9 international games since then. After a failure with bat and ball in his first game here, he picked 3 wickets and scored 62* in the last game, so he’s even worth selecting as your fantasy team captain. Their top scorer so far is Kristian Clarke, who has a lowest of 22 in 3 games.
