Match 1, India bat first and win. Match 2, India fields first and wins. Match 3, they chase again and win. It’s three games down and India A has earned an unassailable lead against the touring team South Africa A in this 5-match ODI series. Both teams have a number of players who have represented the national side, but India A has clearly dominated in home conditions.
India will now make changes to their squad for the final two ODIs while South Africa stays unchanged. Because this is the sub-continent, go for more batsmen and all-rounders rather than bowlers. Also if betting, favour the team bowling first as there’s rain on the cards again. - Tournament: South Africa A Tour of India 2019.
- Date: 4th September 2019, 9:00am IST.
- Venue: Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram.
- Capacity: 50,000+
- Series status: India A lead the 5-match ODI series 3-0.
Form (recent first)
- IND-A: W W W W L
- SA-A: L L L L W
- Last five A-games head to head, India-A leads 4-1.
- Axar Patel – 3 wickets, 77 runs this series so far.
- Shreyas Iyer last 4 innings (2 for IND-A, 2 for India) – 47, 61*, 71, 65.
- Heinrich Klaasen last 5 innings – 64*, 106*, 58, 31, 44.
All-rounders are key in the limited overs formats and that’s why Axar Patel should be a part of your team. After 2 wickets and 60* in the 1st ODI, he has only managed 17 runs and 1 wicket in the next 2 games but I’ll pick him regardless, as he has a lot of international experience. The captaincy has been handed over to Shreyas Iyer who replaces Manish Pandey in the squad, the latter currently the top scorer in this series so far.
Another massive addition to the squad is that of southpaw Shikhar Dhawan, who is easily the most experienced among the lot. With 24 international centuries to his name, Dhawan will have a clear advantage over the SA-A bowlers. Another all-rounder worth having in your team is Shivam Dube, who has scores of 79* and 45* so far this series. Remember, he also bowls. Young Ishan Porel comes in for Khaleel Ahmed and the former could be a high value fantasy pick.
South Africa A
While it’s the mean pacers you would’ve been scared of initially, it’s actually left arm spinner Bjorn Carl Fortuin who has turned out to be a threat, with 4 wickets in 3 games and I’ll have him in my Nostragamus (sign-up with “READSCOOPS” for Rs.100 FREE) fantasy team for sure. Two other pacers have 4 wickets each this series so far and they are Junior Dala and Anrich Nortje.
Having been picked for the IPL, Nortje could be an interesting pick since he hasn’t gone wicketless in his last 10 professional games including matches for SA-A, South Africa and the Warriors. Heinrich Klaasen came into this tournament with two major unbeaten scores at the 2019 GT20 Canada and his form has continued here too, so you can pick him as well. Reeza Hendricks has 120 runs in 3 games but 110 came from just one game; I’ll be skipping this player today.
