One Day Cup 2019 – SUS vs SOM Fantasy Preview

English County Cricket has been around since decades and if you have to name 5 teams who you think have been the most consistent over the years, you will certainly have to name Sussex and Somerset in this list. Today, these two teams face off in the 2019 Royal London One Day Cup, in Sussex’s home ground at Hove.

Now just to solidify the point made about these two being the best teams, both have played 2 games in this year’s 50-over tournament and both are unbeaten so far, with 2 wins in 2 games each in the South Group. Somerset sit at #2 on the points table with a way superior Net Run Rate. Keep reading this article for our complete PlayerzPot (Use Code “READ1234”) fantasy preview of the Sussex vs Somerset game…

Royal London One Day Cup 2019 - Sussex vs Somerset Fantasy Preview

Stats

  • Craig Overton (Somerset) has 8 wickets and 107 runs in 2 games this tournament.
  • Josh Davey (Somerset) and Mir Hamza (Sussex) have 5 wickets each this year.
  • Tom Banton (Somerset) has 121 runs in 2 games this year.
  • Philip Salt (Sussex) comes into this game with an unbeaten 137* from the last game.

Sussex

Ben Brown leads Sussex but he is a wicket-keeper and the Somerset keeper Tom Banton has been getting much better scores this year. 23 and 69 have been the scores of the experienced Luke Wright, who is these days a specialist batsman and doesn’t bowl a lot. However, he makes my team along with Philip Salt, who is a class act when on song.

David Wiese is one mean fast bowler and even though he has picked up only 1 wicket in 2 games here, he’s going to be in my team because of his batting abilities. His 92* in the opening game is an example of that. Laurie Evans looked good in his innings of 46 in the last game and he could be a handy pick as well.

Somerset

Let’s start by picking someone we know will play and that’s Somerset captain Tom Abell. However, let’s keep in mind that he only has 46 runs in 2 games. Someone who could be vital is the very experienced Roelof van der Merwe who has 28 runs and 3 wickets so far but his is always in the action in every team he plays for. He is my vice-captain for this game.

Now Craig Overton bats lower down the order but 100+ runs in 2 games and the fact that he is yet to be dismissed, couple with the fact that he has a fifer and a tally of 8 wickets so far, he is my captain for today. Pakistan international opener Azhar Ali has shown good performances in English conditions in the past and he makes my fantasy team for today irrespective of the fact that he has scores of just 3 and 12 so far.
