Pakistan vs Australia – 3rd ODI Fantasy Preview

Two ODIs so far and we’ve seen identical results. I can’t stress enough on the fact of how similar these two games have been between Pakistan and Australia in UAE. In both instances, Pakistan batted first, one batsman scored a fine century, the team put up a score of around 280+, Australia chased down the target with 8 wickets to spare. No, this isn’t the story of one match, but two consecutive matches.

More similarities are that both were played at Sharjah and Australia continued their dominance over Pakistan at this ground, with Aaron Finch scoring match-winning centuries in both games. A few weeks before the World Cup, what a brilliant time to peak in form. The 3rd ODI will now be played at a new venue in Abu Dhabi and you can read our complete PlayerzPot (Use Code “READ1234”) fantasy preview here…

Form (recent first)

  • Australia: W W W W W L L
  • Pakistan: L L L W L L W

Stats

  • Australia have a 60% win rate here (5 ODIs); Pakistan have 50% (36 ODIs).
  • 300+ has been achieved here thrice; 313/9 is the highest total – Pakistan.
  • Shoaib Malik has 3 fifties and 540 runs at this ground.
  • Shoaib Malik also has 12 wickets at this ground.
  • Aaron Finch has 269 runs in 2 games this series so far.

Pakistan

Now the home team has done well to put up 280+ in both games, but have managed only 4 wickets in these games, so I won’t waste my fantasy team bowler spots on them. Add 3-4 batting options from Pakistan to go with all-rounders, but the inexperienced bowling attack can be left out. Not a single Pakistan bowler has picked up more than 1 wicket this series so far, but if you had to pick one, choose Faheem Ashraf as he bats higher up the order and could get you some runs if given the chance..

The two centurions for Pakistan so far have been Haris Sohail and Mohammad Rizwan. If there’s something Pakistan has suffered from over the years, it is consistency. Like I said in the fantasy preview of the 2nd ODI to leave out Sohail, similarly, you can keep him for this encounter as well. Rizwan however, makes my team as the Australian keeper bats lower and high chances are he won’t get a hit.

Australia

The top 4 batsmen are those who you won’t want to miss. The fact that Pakistani bowlers are unable to take wickets has such a big role to play in selecting your team and you could very well go in for all of Australia’s top 4 batsmen. Usman Khawaja has been in impeccable form right from the India series, while Finchy is peaking now. Similarly, Shaun Marsh came out of a run of poor form with 91 in the 1st ODI here. Pick them all.

Two all-rounders in Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis can also be picked, as they provide bowling options as well. You can even select one of them as you captain/vice-captain. In the bowling department, Jhye Richardson had a bad shoulder dislocation which means one spot is up for grabs between Kane Richardson and Jason Behrendorff. The latter has been given preference in recent times and he is a likely starter for the 3rd ODI.
