T20 cricket was first introduced to the South Asian Games in 2010 and it now makes a comeback after 9 years, having not featured in the 2016 edition. Bangladesh was the host nation in 2010 and they won the gold medal. There is a lot of prestige at stake for all the teams, while India and Pakistan haven’t sent their teams to this competition, which is taking place in Nepal.
While the women’s competition is also running simultaneously, the men’s tournament kicks off with host nations Nepal in action, playing their full-strength squad. They play Sri Lanka U-23 in the opener game and the only international T20 here saw a first inning score of 132 being achieved, which was chased down in 18.1 overs. - SLU23: –
- Gyanendra Malla – 3 ducks in last 5 professional innings.
- Karan KC – 23 wickets in last 9 bowling efforts.
- Rohit Kumar Paudel last 3 scores for Nepal – 6, 5, 5.
Paras Khadka recently gave away his captaincy and the team will now be led by the very experienced Gyanendra Malla, who recently has had a poor run of form. One player who has been doing well in recent times is Dipendra Singh Airee who contributes a little bit with bat and ball both. Another good all-rounder selection could be Karan KC who hasn’t gone wicketless in his last 9 bowling outings.
Another big blow to the team would be missing out on the superstar spinner Sandeep Lamichhane. However, another young 18-year old all-rounder who has fast risen through the ranks is Pawan Sarraf. In September, he scored 81 against Bangladesh U19, backed that up with a 4-fer against MCC in November and then 56 against India Emerging Team a week later. Middle order batsman Rohit Kumar Paudel is also a good pick.
Sri Lanka U-23
The biggest star in this side has to be Kamindu Mendis who has 6 fifties and one massive century score of 169 in just his last 10 games since August. His consistency makes him a good fantasy captain or vice-captain pick for this NEP vs SL U-23 game. Pathum Nissanka is also a good choice with the bat, having scored 85 and 192 in the same test against Bangladesh A just in October this year.
Another player to add to your My11Circle (Get Rs.500 Bonus*) fantasy team is Charith Asalanka who also has a couple of fifties since August including a best of 100 which came in his last game against AFG Emeging Team. With the ball, watch out for Asitha Fernando who picked a 3-fer against Pakistan Emerging Team a couple of weeks back. Jehan Daniel can be your x-factor all-rounder player today.
