Warriors vs Dolphins – 2019 Momentum Cup Fantasy Preview

Three days ago, a faltering Knights team took on Dolphins, who were perfectly placed at #3 on the points table of the ongoing 2019 Momentum One Day Cup. However, Dolphins seem to have hit a huge roadblock, having won just one of their last 5 matches this tournament, after a very impressive start to the season. Now, we have just 5 more matches before we move into the knockout stages of the 2019 competition.

That’s something that their newest opponent Warriors will be looking to exploit and take advantage of a team that seems to be in a rut. Warriors play Dolphins in Match 25 of the Momentum One Day Cup at Port Elizabeth and we have constructed a complete fantasy preview for this game. Keep reading for more…

Stats

  • Warriors are 2nd on the points table, with 4 wins in 8 matches – 18 points.
  • Dolphins are 3rd on the points table, with 4 wins in 8 matches – 16 points.

  • Warriors lead the H2H count of their last 5 matches, 2-1 (two ‘No Result’).

Warriors

In the reverse fixture between these teams, it was Sisanda Magala who impressed one and all with a 5-fer, and this player will not be too hard on your fantasy team budget either. Wicket-keeper batsman Sinethemba Qeshile has had a brilliant season so far, but remember, he has been picked to the South African squad for the T20 series against Sri Lanka. Choose Dane Vilas from Dolphins as your wicket-keeper.

Jon-Jon Smuts will be my captain for this encounter. He may be a popular fantasy choice, being a #3 batsman and having a fifty to his name already this season. However, he also has international experience and 8 wickets to his name this season, so picking him is a must. Gihahn Cloete has 1 fifty and 1 century in the season so far and could be a good choice as well, but Matthew Breetzke could be a smarter option. He has plenty of starts this year and could also be selected, given that he is a cheaper option.

Dolphins

Coming to the Dolphins, they haven’t been in the best of form in recent times. To make things worse, some of their players are out on international duty. David Miller and Andile Phehlukwayo scored 68 each in the reverse fixture, both both are unavailable at the moment. One positive for them is that captain Khaya Zondo is back after missing one game with a back injury. Make sure Zondo is a part of your squad.

Keshav Maharaj has had a pretty mediocre season thus far, with just 3 wickets. However, his 1/12 in the last game would’ve upped his confidence and I’ll be wanting this player in my team. Robbie Frylinck is one of the most experienced players in the South African domestic circuit and he’s someone you wouldn’t want to miss.
