WBBL 2019 Match 1 – ST-W vs SS-W Fantasy Preview

The Rebel’s Women’s Big Bash League 2019 has finally arrived after a year of waiting. And it’s a fantastic way to begin with a Sydney Derby as Sydney Sixers Women take on Sydney Thunder Women in Match 1 of the 2019 WBBL. The match will obviously be played in Sydney and it’s the only match of the day while three games are scheduled on the second day of the tournament.

These two teams have always enjoyed a great rivalry in the WBBL history, with 4 of their last games being shared 2-2 while the game before that even being tied, so you can see how there’s nothing between them really. Their last encounter saw Sydney Thunder emerging victorious. Keep reading for our complete Fantain (Use Code “READ123”) fantasy preview of the ST-W vs SS-W game…

Numbers

  • Last 5 games head to head, the teams are 2-2. One game was tied.
  • Rachael Haynes in last 4 international games – 63, 118, 56, 41.
  • Lisa Griffith – wicketless in last 5 professional games.
  • Ellyse Perry – 4 wickets, 29 runs in 6 recent games against SL Women.

Sydney Thunder Women

32-year old Rachael Haynes is vastly experienced with 100+ games for the national side and she will lead this team. She recently had a fantastic ODI series against Sri Lanka Women where she crossed a score of 50+ in all three games. With the ball, Samantha Bates could be a worthy pick as she has a wicket or more in all of her last 5 games, including her last outing of 3/42 last month against Queensland Women.

Wicket-keeper batter Rachel Priest just had a good season in London where she scored 2 fifties for Western Storm in the 2019 Women’s Cricket Super League, so she can be included in your ST-W vs SS-W fantasy team too. With scores of 42 and 53 in 2 ODD games for NSW Women last month, Naomi Stalenberg seems to be in good touch as well.  Pick both overseas players Nida Dar and Shabnim Ismail.

Sydney Sixers Women

I don’t see any reason why Ellyse Perry won’t be the captain or vice-captain of your fantasy team, as she’s one of the most decorated female cricketers of all time. She captains the side but she didn’t have a very impressive series against SL Women recently. Overseas player Marizanne Kapp is coming off 3 wickets and a fifty in 3 ODIs against India Women so pick her, while her wife Dane van Niekerk is a good all-rounder too.

With the bat, Alyssa Healy is someone you can’t leave out of your Fantain (Use Code “READ123”) fantasy team series. Her last outing was the 3rd ODI against SL Women where she scored 112* while in the 3rd T20 against them, she scored a massive 148*. She’s in the form of her life at the moment. Lauren Cheatle played 2 ODIs for Australia Women earlier this year and went wicketless but she picked 7 in 3 games for NSW Women prior to that.
