WI vs AFG in India 2019 – 3rd ODI Fantasy Preview

Afghanistan just doesn’t know how to get wins right now in international cricket. Having such a talented lineup, it’s sad to see that they’re on a massive 11-game losing streak in ODIs at the moment. In the last game too, they were favourite to win for a quite a while but eventually, they lost the 2nd ODI too, along with the series. They now play for pride and have a chance to experiment with some of their benched players.

It will be a good chance for West Indies to try out some of their substitutes as well, having already won the ODI series. We don’t know how the pitch will play as the first game was slow, but the second game saw more bounce. All 7 games though are scheduled to be played at the same ground. Numbers

  • Head to head in last 5 ODIs, West Indies leads 3-2.
  • Brandon King – 496 runs in 12 matches in CPL 2019.
  • Afghanistan has lost ALL of their last 11 ODIs.
  • Ibrahim Zadran in 2019 Shpageeza League – 25, 62, 35, 96*, 69.
  • Javed Ahmadi in 2 games so far –

West Indies

Having won the series, it’s probably time for Windies to hand over an ODI debut to Brandon King, who had the most amazing CPL 2019, ending as the top scorer with 3 fifties and a top score of 132*. He could come in for Evin Lewis or Shai Hope, both of whom have proved themselves already this series. I’ll continue to pick Nicholas Pooran as my wicket-keeper as he proved how destructive he can be when given the chance.

Another person we expect to get a go in this game is Kharry Pierre who has been getting wickets, while Keemo Paul is also in line to get a game in this ODI series. Alzarri Joseph had no wickets in both games and he didn’t even look convincing as a fast bowler and he’s likely to get the axe. Leg-spinner Hayden Walsh Jr is a must pick as he bagged 3/36 in the last game and has a tally of 23 wickets in his last 10 professional games.

Afghanistan

With 3 fifties in 5 games at the recent 2019 Shpageeza League and no score below 20, to go with a bowling best of 3/42, it’s time Afghanistan handed a game to Ibrahim Zadran and if they do, please add the 17-year old to your Rotobash (sign-up to get Rs.100 FREE) fantasy team. He may replace either opener Ahmadi or Zazai, both of whom have failed this series. Zazai has no 30+ score in his last 10 games and may get the axe.

After shining with both bat and ball in the domestic circuit, Javed Ahmadi has been rather poor here so far with only 5 runs in 2 games, and just 1 wicket so far. He might just get another chance because of his all-round abilities. With the ball, captain Rashid Khan was down and out with only about 3-4 wickets in his last 10 games. Here too, he has only 1 wicket and 2 runs in 2 games but I’m picking him because that ‘spark’ was visible again in the 2nd ODI.
