Australia Women hosted India and England for a T20 Women’s tri-series and after 6 games of round robin stage, we’ve reached the final wherein all three teams ended with 2 wins in 4 games each. The home team topped the points table while India Women finished second because of higher net run rates than England Women.
Of these 6 games, 5 were decided in regulation time and 4 of them were won batting second. Coming to the final, these two teams played each other twice already, with AUS Women winning one by 4 wickets and IND Women winning one by 7 wickets. Remember to always choose the all-rounders first. While Ellyse Perry hasn’t been at her best in recent months, she’s surely brought her A-game here with 90 runs in 4 games with a best of 49 with the bat, to go with 6 wickets in 4 games with the ball. Ashleigh Gardner is their highest scorer thanks mostly to a score of 93 but Beth Mooney has been more consistent, with 2 fifties in 4 games and a total of 137 runs.
With the ball, Tayla Vlaeminck could be a good option. Having missed the first couple of games, she’s come into the sides and been of great use, with a 2-fer and 3-fer in her 2 games so far. Though she’s only got 14 runs and just 2 wickets in this series so far, Jess Jonassen could be a good all-round option having been in fantastic form in the domestic circuit of late. She could even be your AU-W vs IN-W fantasy side captain.
Deepti Sharma has always been one of the better all-rounders in India Women’s cricket, though she usually doesn’t get a bat much in T20 games. She has 5 wickets in 4 games and 32 runs in 4 innings, being dismissed only once so far, so she’s a good pick. Radha Yadav is another great fantasy pick with 4 wickets in 4 games here this series, and not a single game wicketless in her last 10 outings.
With the bat, Shafali Verma is the youngest in both sides but she’s proved to be brilliant in the T20 format, with 92 runs and a top score of 49 so far in this series too, so she’s part of my Howzat (sign-up with code “READ1234”) fantasy team. No surprises when I tell you that Smriti Mandhana is once again the top scorer for India in a series, with consistent performances in all games and a lowest of 15 so far.
