It’s good to see these two ‘associate’ nations back in action playing international cricket. The format of the 2019 ICC World Cup has led to us missing out on the talent that there is to offer from these lesser fortunate cricketing nations. Zimbabwe has now head out on a tour of Netherlands for 2 ODIs and 2 T20s between 19-25 June following which they will also make the trip to Ireland, meaning vital exposure for all countries involved.
Zimbabwe has played and won at the highest stage on countless occasions so they are the obvious favourites even though they are playing away from home. This ground has had 2 T20Is in the past and 200+ was achieved once while 185 turned out to be a tied game on the other occasion; clearly a good wicket for batting. Keep reading for our Funtasy11 (sign-up with code “6CD431“) fantasy preview of the NED vs ZIM 1st ODI here…

- Zimbabwe come into this series having beaten UAE 4-0 recently.
- Head to head in ODIs, Zimbabwe lead 1-0 (CWC 2003).
- Wesley Barresi – 6×50 and 1×100 for Netherlands in ODIs.
- Kyle Jarvis – 21 wickets in last 10 professional games (never wicketless).
Bas de Leede has been included in the Netherlands squad, 19-year old son of iconic cricketer Tim de Leede. The player has plenty of experience and even scored a couple of fifties for MCC Young Cricketers in English conditions in the last 2 months. If he is in the playing 11, pick him. The best Oranje players are easily Ryan ten Doeschate, Timm van der Gugten and Shane Snater and all three are omitted due to county priorities and other reasons.
The team is being led by Pieter Seelaar so you can pick him, someone who has been with the team for many years. He bats and bowls both and that’s brilliant for fantasy cricket. Roelof van der Merwe is another cricket you want in your your Funtasy11 (sign-up with code “6CD431“) fantasy team as he has played for SA in the past and also in plenty of T20 leagues across the world. Fred Klaasen is another must-have as he is a regular wicket-taker and is also coming off a successful first-class season for Kent.
First on my fantasy team sheet is Sikandar Raza. He was exposure from different T20 leagues around the world and recently broke into the ICC top 10 best all-rounders in the world too. He can definitely be your vice-captain but maybe not captain because he seemed to not get much to bat in the UAE series as the Zimbabwe upper order was doing well. We once spoke to Raza and you can see that entire conversation here.
Now, that batting order is strengthened by the return of Brendan Taylor and Hamilton Masakadza, with the latter leading the team. Masakadza brings out his best game when captaining while Taylor is off stints in PSL and BPL, so they are both going into my fantasy team for the 1st ODI. Another very vital cog in the wheel is Sean Williams who also scored a century in the 3rd ODI vs UAE. Let’s also remember that a few overs from him always happen.
