We saw some really really unlikely and to be honest, ‘shocking’ results in the 2-match ODI series between Netherlands and Zimbabwe, away from the 2019 ICC World Cup. That just goes to show how much of cricketing talent there is around the world that doesn’t really get the right exposure and the chance to prove themselves of the biggest stage. Netherlands beat Zimbabwe 2-0, completing successful chases of 208 and 291 in those games.
Before Zimbabwe move on to Ireland for another series, they play 2 T20s against Netherlands and this will be one last warm-up before they play an Irish team which clearly has a stronger squad. Zimbabwe still have better names on paper an it all depends on the execution as we enter the 1st T20 of this series. Keep reading for our Funtasy11 (sign-up with code “6CD431“) fantasy preview of the NED vs ZIM 1st T20 here…

- Netherlands have won 3 of their 4 T20s at this ground.
- Roelof van der Merwe – 77 runs and 4 wickets in 2 T20s here.
- Head to head in T20s, Zimbabwe lead 1-0.
Max O’Dowd made a brilliant start to his ODI career, with scores of 86* and 59 and a stunning average of 145 to go with it. However, he is only a batsman so I’ll select him as a normal player and not a captain or vice-captain. Another good fantasy team selection for this NED vs ZIM 1st T20 is Ben Cooper. With plenty of experience, Cooper hit 20 and 35 in the ODIs but the T20 format suits his style better.
T20 is a game for all-rounders and in that case, don’t miss out on picking Roelof van der Merwe. He has a brilliant record with both bat and ball on this ground while also scoring a fifty in the 2nd ODI. Saqib Zulfiqar is another all-round option you can consider, being a middle-order batsman ad more-than-handy bowler too.
First person on the team sheet for me has to be Sean Williams. The player brings in a unique left-arm angle while bowling, and even though he’s a batting all-rounder, he ended as the highest wicket-taker in the ODI series with 6 wickets. He scored 16 and 2 in the ODIs but is a much more capable batsman than this. He’s my captain today. Solomon Mire scored 28 and 4 in the two ODIs but he loves the T20 game and I’ll be picking him in my Funtasy11 (sign-up with code “6CD431“) fantasy team and expecting a better outing for the player today.
All-rounders are key in T20s and you can’t miss out Sikandar Raza who is in the top 10 best all-rounders on the ICC Rankings. He has experience of playing in several T20 leagues and this is the format he enjoys the most. His 85* in the 2nd ODI was just a reminder of his capabilities. With the ball, it was a disappointing series for Kyle Jarvis, someone who has plenty of County cricket experience. He ended a 10+ match streak of not going wicketless and got 0 in 2 games in the ODIs, but I’ve backed him here.
