India Record 6th Test Victory Down Under

This was the series that was being hyped since the last couple of months – India vs Australia 2018/19. This was the major challenge for India as they toured Down Under to play the mighty Aussies, the latter albeit without their stalwarts David Warner and Steve Smith, who are still out serving a 12-month ball-tampering ban.

The 1st Test began on 6th December and today, India completed a 31-run victory against Australia in what was a thrilling encounter at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. Coming into this game, all the odds were against the touring side who had a pathetic record at the ground, coupled with the fact that India had never won the opening match of a test series in Australia before. Also, they had only won 5 tests down under EVER.

However, plenty of records were about to be set as India beat Australia earlier today.

India beat Australia by 31 runs in Adelaide

Take a look:

  • First time India won the 1st Test match of a series in Australia.
  • Only India’s 6th Test match victory in Australia.
  • Second most ‘caught’ dismissals in a Test match ever – 34.
  • Most unbeaten games as captain after winning the toss – Kohli has 20 Tests, 17 wins and 3 draws.
  • Virat Kohli is the first Indian captain to win Tests in Australia, England and South Africa. Dravid and Dhoni won in the other two, but never in Australia.
  • Cheteshwar Pujara is India’s only batsman to have 50+ scores in all three of their overseas victories in 2018 so far.
  • Second time India won 3 Tests outside Asia in a calendar year. The last time was waaaaaay back in 1978 after three wins in New Zealand.
  • First time Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 6 wickets in a Test match in Australia.

Man of the Match: Cheteshwar Pujara – 123(246) and 71(204).

Some more fun. Rishabh Pant sledging Pat Cummins when the latter was batting:

With India winning the first game of the series, the tone is set perfectly for the rest of the series, and the Men in Blue (in this case, white) will be looking to continue their dominance and secure a rare series victory down under. For more updates on the series, keep following ReadScoops.com.
