IPL 2018 – Match 30 – Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Daredevils Preview

A couple of losses in seven games means Chennai Super Kings are resting at #2 on the IPL 2018 points table. It’s the opposite for Delhi Daredevils who have managed only two wins in their seven games, and are right at the bottom of the same table. However, Delhi will come into the game with more confidence, having won their last game as compared to Chennai who lost their previous game to Mumbai.

One thing in Chennai’s favour is that they are a champion side and not many times in the history of the Indian Premier League have they lost two successive games in a season. However, lets not forget that a lot of positives can be drawn our from Delhi’s last game as well, under new captain Shreyas Iyer.

Teams

Many would’ve thought DD would’ve been in trouble after Gautam Gambhir stepped down as captain and then was even dropped from the playing eleven. However, Prithvi Shaw turned out to be the ideal opener, who has been playing his shots fearlessly and became the youngest batsman to score a fifty in the Indian Premier League.

Iyer himself has been in sensational form with 244 runs in the season so far, and he seems to be enjoying the role of captaincy. He has 3 consecutive scores of 50+ now. They brought back Colin Munro in the last game and he gave the team an ideal start while Glenn Maxwell has final contributed well, with a brisk 27 and 2 wickets as well. These are all positive signs for the touring team.

CSK v DD

Chennai will be slightly worried going into this game. They already had a weak bowling attack and now Deepak Chahar, who has been swinging the ball and picking up wickets in the powerplay overs,  is out for atleast 2 weeks with a hamstring injury. They would want to boost this attack by adding Lungi Ngidi or David Willey to the team, in place of Sam Billings.

Billings has just got 24 runs in his last 4 hits and if I was Dhoni, I would want to get Willey in the team, who will provide the pace with the ball and can be a floater in the batting as well. Their batting has no worries if you ask me, with all of Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina in scintillating form. Watson hasn’t had a good last couple of games but has scored a century in this season already.

Overall

The last 1st innings score at the MCA Stadium was 169 and as CSK saw, it won’t be enough. For the team winning the toss and batting first, they will be looking to score atleast 180 if they want to end up on the winning side. If you ask me, it will be an exciting game, and Chennai Super Kings will end victorious.
