McCullum Among RCB’s 9 Released Players

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have let go of their star overseas players in a bid to strengthen their squad for the upcoming IPL 2019 edition. Brendon McCullum, Chris Woakes and Corey Anderson were all acquired by the franchise just before the last season and they are all released as per the latest announcement made by RCB on Thursday (Nov 15).

Young sensation Sarfaraz Khan was retained by RCB ahead of last season. Khan played in just 7 games in IPL 2018 in which he scored just 51 runs at an average of just over 10. It is no surprise that the player is released after such a poor performance. Manan Vohra and Murugan Ashwin are other notable releases among Indian players by RCB.

Navdeep Saini despite not featuring in a single game last season has been retained by the franchise. In an all-money trade, RCB has let go of their wicket keeper Quinton de Kock to Mumbai Indians and traded Mandeep Singh with Kings XI Punjab to acquire Marcus Stoinis. With limited availability of Aussies for the next season, only time will tell if acquiring Stoinis was a good move or not!

Woakes played 5 games for RCB in the last season in which he scored just 17 runs with the bat and picked up 8 wickets. McCullum on the other hand played 6 games in which he scored 127 runs at an average of just over 21. These poor stats cleared paved the way out for these two players! RCB have 10 slots available in their squad which has to be filled with 8 Indian players and 2 overseas players. How high do you think McCullum will go for at the IPL 2019 auction?
