New Zealand vs Bangladesh 3rd ODI Fantasy Preview

So once again, Bangladesh succumbed to a series loss in New Zealand, losing the 2nd ODI and going behind 2-0. On the fantasy cricket side of things, we selected Martin Guptill (not as captain), who went on to score consecutive centuries, while also believing in Ross Taylor, who ended with 21* in the 2nd ODI. I will continue to keep Taylor as my captain, in the hope that New Zealand bat first in this series. Taylor has 45* and 21* in this series and with his current form, a big score is expected if he gets a better chance.

The Kiwis will be looking for a whitewash but at the same time, they will be looking to test their bench strength, since we’re now ever so close to the 2019 ICC World Cup. Changes are expected in the Bangladesh camp as well, as we move to the small ground of University Oval in Dunedin for the 3rd and final ODI of the series. Keep reading for our complete fantasy preview.

New Zealand vs Bangladesh 3rd ODI fantasy preview

Form (recent first)

  • New Zealand: W W L W L L L
  • Bangladesh: L L W L W W W

Stats

  • New Zealand are unbeaten at the University Oval, Dunedin, with 7 wins in 7 games.
  • Bangladesh have lost their only ODI here in 2010.
  • 300+ has been achieved four times, including a highest chase of 339/5.
  • Ross Taylor is the highest scorer at this ground with 3 fifties, 1 hundred and a total of 436 runs in 6 games.
  • Trent Boult is the highest wicket taker here with 14 wickets in 5 games. Incredible!

New Zealand

A win seems inevitable. Another New Zealand clean sweep of Bangladesh at home seems likely. However, lets focus of the fantasy team for this 3rd ODI. Remember, there is NO KANE WILLIAMSON, as he is their main batsman for the World Cup, so he has been rested. Tom Latham will captain the side for the 3rd ODI.

Similarly, Colin Munro has been called in for the final ODI, so we could expect Guptill to be rested and Munro to open alongside Henry Nicholls. Alternately, Nicholls could get the axe to maintain the right-left hand opening combination. With the ball, Boult has been impeccable and has also been phenomenal at this ground in the past, but let’s choose Lockie Ferguson instead, who is cheaper and has 5 wickets in 2 games this series. Boult may also be rested for this game anyway.

Bangladesh

It has been a sad story for the visiting team so far, but one shining light in this darkness has been Mohammad Mithun. While batsmen have struggled to score, Mithun has managed a fifty in both innings so far, being Bangladesh’s highest run scorer (119 runs) by more than double the next best Sabbir Rahman (56 runs).

Bangladesh bowlers have only managed 4 wickets in two games on this tour, so I would pick my fantasy team ensuring I have more Bangladesh batsmen than bowlers, and choose all-rounder options like Mahmudullah and Mehidy Hasan since they have 2 out of those 4 wickets anyway.
