Rahkeem Cornwall bags record 7/75 against Afghanistan

When you see someone who’s about 6 feet 5 inches tall, and weighs around 300 pounds, you probably wouldn’t associate him with any professional sport. But that’s not the case with Rahkeem Cornwall, 26-year old cricketer from Antigua who has played over 50 First Class matches since his debut back in 2014.

He’s been extremely consistent in the domestic circuit in recent times, with bat and ball both. He can bowl slow medium pacers as well as off-spin, while he can bat at the top as well as in the lower order. The talented cricketer recently even made his debut for West Indies in the longest format, picking 3 wickets in that test match against India.

There was a question about his participation in this only Test against Afghanistan which began earlier today, because he sat of the practice session, clutching an ice pack. However, he did manage to prove his fitness before what became the second test of his career. We’re sure West Indies doesn’t regret the decision of picking him now!

Day 1 of the only test against Afghanistan and the Caribbean side was looking a little off today until Cornwall came in to bowl. It was only his third over when he first struck, only for him to get six more wickets after that first one. He played a massive role in bowling Afghanistan all out for 187 after picking a record 7/75 today.

From 84/1 and in a good position to stamp their authority on the game, Afghanistan crumbled and Cornwall would’ve been a very happy man indeed. He recorded the 23rd best figures for a West Indian in Test cricket and 5th best in Asia, proving what an asset he can be to this side. West Indies ended the day at 68/2 and they have just about 119 runs left to wipe off the deficit.

Rahkeem’s uncle Wilden Cornwall also played 50+ FC games but never managed to make it to the international level. However, Rahkeem is clearly making the family proud, and he’s only just getting started. He’s yet to bat in this game and may surely need to bowl again too.
