WATCH: Rashid Khan Picks Up CPL’s First Hat-Trick

Earlier today, CPL defending champions Jamaica Tallawahs were taking on the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the eliminator, for a chance to fight for a spot in the final in the 2nd qualifier. The Warriors, led by Rayad Emrit, won the toss and elected to field first.

The Tallawahs made a steady start with the bat as Lendl Simmon & Trevon Griffith got off to starts but were not able to convert them. Captain Kumar Sangakkara had three fifties in the series before this so it was sad to see he came out down the order, batting at #5 rather than his normal #3.

He ended the Tallawah innings with an unbeaten 57(38)* – his fourth fifty of the series. If he had to bat at his nomal position, I’m sure the Tallawahs would’ve got more than 168/8 on the board. However, the talking point of the innings was 18-year old Rashid Khan’s bowling.

When Rashid came in to bowl the 15th over of the innings, Jamaica were on 116/4. Who knew that they would then be reeling at 116/7, barely a few minutes later. Rashid now has a total of 13 wickets in the tournament thus far.

  • 14.2 – Jonathan Foo b. Rashid Khan
  • 14.3 – Rovman Powell b. Rashid Khan

With that, the leg-spinner from Afghanistan bowled a match changing over and also picked up the first ever hat-trick in the history of the CPL (Caribbean Premier League), currently in its fifth season. What was even more surprising is that all three wickets were googlies and all three hit timber. BOWLED.

His efforts, followed by a smashing 70(33)* by Luke Ronchi with the bat meant that Guyana Amazon Warriors completed an easy win and they will play Trinbago Knight Riders in Qualifer 2, for a chance to play in the finals against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.

This youngster already has stats that bowlers don’t achieve till they’re 24-25 years old. He has 63 ODI wickets in just 29 ODIs, and 42 wickets in 27 T20Is. Let’s not forget that at this age, he also has contracts with many T20 leagues around the world, including IPL as well.

There are just two games to go in the CPL and 1xBet is a good option for streaming these games live on the internet. You can also check out our Sports Scoops section for more similar content.
