SunRisers Trade Dhawan Due to Financial Reasons

SunRisers Hyderabad, in a latest development has announced that it has traded Shikhar Dhawan to Delhi Daredevils in exchange for three players – an all rounder (Vijay Shankar) and two bowlers (Shahbaz Nadeem and Abhishek Sharma). One player in exchange of three players – SRH has been the certain beneficiary with this trade.

Shikhar Dhawan, for the first time since 2008, will represent Delhi Daredevils in an IPL season. After playing for DD in the inaugural edition, Dhawan represented Mumbai Indians (MI) for a couple of years and then moved to Deccan Chargers. Dhawan finally became part of SunRisers Hyderabad in the year 2013.

Dhawan has amassed over 2,000 runs for Sun Risers and is the leading run-getter for them with the bat. David Warner is the only player to have scored over 2,000 runs for this franchise in this tournament. Dhawan now joins Rishabh Pant, Gautam Gambhir and Manjot Kalra as the locals to represent Delhi Daredevils in the upcoming IPL 2019 season.

In the build up to the IPL 2018 auction, SunRisers Hyderabad retained Bhuvneshwar Kumar and David Warner. And during the auction, SRH used their RTM (right to match) card to buy Shikhar Dhawan from Kings XI Punjab for a good price of INR 5.2 crore. Ever since the IPL 2018 auction, Dhawan has been unsettled with the amount that he was bought for and that has resulted in this trade ahead of the IPL 2019 season.

“It was with a heavy heart that we announce that one of our long standing players, Shikhar Dhawan will be moving to another franchise in 2019. The SunRisers were delighted to pick Shikhar up in the auction after using one of its RTM (right to match) cards earlier in the year,” said SunRisers Hyderabad in a press release.

“Unfortunately, it has become apparent that the player has been unsettled ever since with the amount he was bought for in the auction, which unfortunately we cannot rectify due to IPL rules. The franchise has made the decision to trade Shikhar as they feel it is best for both parties. Sun Risers value the great contribution that Shikhar has made over the years and saddened that due to financial reasons, he feels it’s time to move on. We wish him and his family all the best,” concluded the press release.
