Virat-Rohit Records from the 1st Windies ODI

The Test series is done and dusted and it is the start of the 5-match ODI series between India and West Indies. Looking at the scorecard, both teams adjusted well in the limited overs game after the Test series. Being put into bat first, West Indies posted a good total courtesy a third ODI century from Shimron Hetmyer.

In reply, it was all the Kohli-Rohit show that took India home in the first ODI, thus taking a 1-0 lead upfront. Kohli played an aggressive knock for his 36th ODI century while Rohit remained unbeaten to take India home with 8 wickets in hand. Here are some of the unnoticed records from these two brilliant knocks from Indian captain Virat Kohli and opener Rohit Sharma during the first ODI against West Indies in Guwahati.

246-run partnership between Kohli and Sharma

Captain and his deputy combined together to put on a 246-run partnership for the second wicket in this 1st ODI of the five match series. This is the best partnership for an Indian pair against West Indies in ODIs for any wicket. Previous best was the 196-run opening wicket stand between Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag in 2002.

This is also the 11th time Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma shared a 150-run partnership together in ODIs, second most for any pair. Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly are the first in this list with 12 such partnerships between them.

Also, this is the fifth time Kohli and Rohit shared a 200+ run partnership in ODIs – 202 against Sri Lanka in 2014, 207 against Australia in 2016, 219 against Sri Lanka in 2017, 230 against New Zealand in 2017, 246 against West Indies in this game.

Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly are second in this list having shared three 200+ ODI partnerships between them.
