Pravin Tambe Disqualified From IPL 2020

Playing professional cricket at the ripe old age of 48 years is no joke, to be honest. We don’t know how he does it, but Pravin Tambe has been killing it, in fact getting better with age. However, the leg-spinner has bad news coming his way for the first time since he made his IPL debut a few years back.

Having earlier played for Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Lions and Sunrisers Hyderabad, Tambe was recently bought by Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the IPL 2020 season for his base price of Rs.20 Lakh. However, he has been disqualified from participating in the 2020 Indian Premier League for a breach of an important BCCI rule.

Pravin Tambe disqualified from IPL 2020

For Indian players contracted with the BCCI, it’s a known fact that they can’t play other commercial leagues across the world without having retired from the Indian circuit. As for Tambe, he played in Dubai without prior consent and thus has to pay the price for it now. He even played well abroad, picking up a record 5-fer in T10 cricket in November 2018.

“Tambe had initially announced his retirement. But he then came out of his retirement, after which he took part in the Mumbai League. He then went and played in Dubai in T10 League without informing anyone. We have disqualified him from the IPL as he is a current player and he did not take permission from the board,” said Brijesh Patel, IPL governing council chairman.

Having first played in the IPL way back in 2013, Tambe became the oldest player to be a part of the IPL when he was sold to KKR in the recent IPL 2020 auction. However, the council has passed on the message to KKR about his disqualification and the team will be allowed to look for a replacement for Tambe. Stay tuned for all further updates on this story!
