Bengaluru vs Chennaiyin: ISL 2017/18 Final Preview!

Before reading ahead, have a look at our blog post shortly before the 2017/18 Indian Super League began. It was a season everyone was looking forward to, with so many changes being made. Right from changes in team compositions to changes in the number of teams in the season as well, ISL 4 had it all.

We began with 10 teams, and then were down to the last four. Chennaiyin FC beat Goa 4-1 on aggregate in their two semi final legs, while Bengaluru FC, on their ISL debut, beat FC Pune City 3-3 (advancing on away goal advantage) to make it to the final. Now, the two teams will face off in the major ISL final, on 17th March 2018.

The final will begin at 8 pm at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore, a last minute change from the original venue in Kolkata. Now, which team is better, you want to know? Which team should you put your money on is this mega final? Well, you never know with sports, but we at Read Scoops will try our best to break it down.

ISL Final

Points!

Now Bengaluru FC are playing in just their first season in the Indian Super League but have been impeccable all season, winning 13 of their 18 league games and finishing on the top of the points table. On the other hand, Chennaiyin were right behind them, finishing second with 9 wins in their 18 games. However, Chennaiyin weren’t beaten in both their semi final games, while Bengaluru lost one of their games 1-3.

Experience!

No points for guessing which team is more experienced in this final. Chennaiyin FC have been a part of the ISL since the first season while Bengaluru are playing their first season. Chennaiyin also won the second season and they are one of just 2 teams to have won the ISL in it’s short history so far.

Goal scoring!

Bengaluru have scored 35 goals in this season, only second to FC Goa in the list for most goals scored by any team. On the other hand, Chennaiyin play more of a compact game as compared to Bengaluru’s aggressive style, having found the net just 24 times this season. As far as conceding goes, Bengaluru have conceded 16 and Chennaiyin 19. Both points go to Bengaluru here!

Captains!

Indian international Sunil Chhetri is captain of the newbie Bengaluru team and he has been brilliant this season, leading from the front and scoring 13 goals. Former Portugal defender Henrique Sereno is leading Chennaiyin but I don’t think he has been at his best all season. When it comes to form, I go for Chhetri, but experience goes to Sereno.

Betting Odds!

Given their form all season, the bookmakers have Bengaluru FC as pre-match favourites for the final, at 1.92 with 1xBet, while a 90-minute draw is 3.44 and Chennaiyin are outsiders for this contest at 4.40 with 1xBet. I would suggest creating a 1xBet account and trying to rake in some profits on Chennaiyin at 4.40.
