The 2018/19 Champions League is one in full swing, currently wrapping up the last few matches of the 2nd Leg of the Round of 16. Just yesterday, we saw Manchester City thumping past Schalke 04 and today, we have a couple of more big games coming up, including the high-octane clash between Bayern Munich and Liverpool, with the former playing at home.
Now both these teams are champion sides, Liverpool more so in the last couple of years. However, their dream of winning silverware still remains a dream, having also lost in the final of the UCL last year. Now, these two are right at the tops of their respective leagues but today, none of that matters. They head into the 2nd Leg with the aggregate score at 0-0. We have put up a complete fantasy preview of this game which you can read below…
- Tournament: 2018/19 UEFA Champions League – Round of 16, 2nd Leg
- Date: 14th March 2019, 1:30am IST
- Venue: Allianz Arena, Munich
- Capacity: 75,000+
Form (recent first)
- Liverpool – W D W D D W
- Bayern Munich – W W W D W W
- After 30 games, Liverpool is 1 point behind Manchester City on the EPL points table.
- After 25 games, Bayern Munich is on top of the Bundesliga points table.
- Bayern have scored 18 goals in their last 6 games (all competitions); Liverpool 12 goals.
- Bayern have conceded 4 goals in their last 6 games (all competitions); Liverpool 2 goals.
Bayern and Liverpool have played just 6 times prior, with a win each and 4 draws. Playing at home, Bayern will have the home support, but let’s remember, they cannot afford anything less than a win, considering they didn’t manage any away goals at Anfield in the 1st Leg. For this clash, Frank Ribery will be on the left wing and he’s someone worth making your fantasy team captain.
Now those who won’t be a part of the playing eleven tonight include Corentin Tolisso and Thomas Muller, out with injuries, while Joshua Kimmich will watch the game from the bench, out with a suspension. Manuel Neuer could be their saving grace, considered as one of the best goal-keepers in the world. Make sure you select him in your teams.
Liverpool will definitely be confident coming into this game. Jurgen Klopp’s men have been fantastic all season, and a single away goal means they just need a draw to progress to the quarter finals of the 2018/19 Champions League. What’s better is that they have an almost full squad to select their playing eleven from.
The only three who will be absent tonight are Joe Gomez, Naby Keita and Dejan Lovren. Another positive would be the return of Jordan Henderson, and he will come straight into the playing eleven. Firmino and Salah are must picks for this encounter as they are the most likely to penetrate Neuer’s goal. Expect a good match tonight.
