PSG vs Manchester United – UCL Round of 16 Fantasy Preview

We’re looking at what could be one of the best match-ups of the 2018/19 Champions League thus far as Paris Saint-Germain get ready to host Manchester United in the second leg of their Round of 16 clash. What’s interesting is that ever since Ole Solskjaer took over as Man United manager in December last year, the 1st Leg clash against PSG has been his only loss till date, nearly 3 months later!

Now while that is a compliment to Solskjaer and his work with United thus far, it also means that PSG has been his only problem yet. It also means that the team from Old Trafford will have to do double the effort if they want to progress in the 2018/19 UCL, as they lost the home fixture 0-2. Will PSG qualify to the quarters or will United manage 3 away goals? Keep reading for our complete fantasy preview of the same…

Stats

  • With 12 games to go, PSG have a 17-point lead on top of the Ligue 1 Standings.
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has lost just 1 of his 16 games with Manchester United thus far.
  • Manchester United is 4th in the Premier League standings, 13 points behind the top-ranked Man City.
  • PSG are close to the Champions League quarter finals for the first time in 3 years.

PSG

The crowd will get behind their team tonight at the Parc des Princes, in Paris, France. Thomas Tuchel’s men had a perfect second half in the 1st Leg, after a balanced first half, and they even played without their main men Neymar and Edinson Cavani. Sadly, they will continue to be without these strikers for the home game, while Thomas Meunier can be added to the injury list.

The rest of the squad is all available, as no one is in injury doubt or serving suspension. As for mid-fielder Adrien Rabiot, you can count him out of having any part of this game as he isn’t in best terms with the manager and Liverpool are seeking for this player’s services. Expect a charged up Angel di Maria, who will be up against his former English club, so he definitely makes my fantasy side.

Manchester United

The fact that they have a great manager and that they have been in great form all seems irrelevant tonight, as Manchester United will be playing without half their original squad strength. Their never-ending injury list includes some of their best players like Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez, and Nemanja Matic.

Don’t pick these players in your fantasy team and as far as the team’s chances go, the injury list only spells doom. To make things worse for the home side, Paul Pogba earned himself a second booking in the 1st Leg against PSG, which means he will be out for this game. We could see a really one-sided game if United don’t come out with a fighting attitude. Anthony Martial is also in doubt, while the only saving grace could be David de Gea so don’t forget to select him.
